Mortal Kombat Arcade Kabinet

Hello all I'm new to the forum so if this isn't the place to post this then will the mods please move it.

Making a Mortal Kombat Cabinet and Need Some Help

Hello all, I am new to this forum, but have watching and searching it for quite some time now. I have decided to make an arcade cabinet based on Mortal Kombat, but have some questions I need answered and am hoping you all can help

First: I am gonna be making it a console cabinet, primarily a 360 cabinet. I have searched and seen plenty of tutorials on dual modding and also using a wireless 360 controller for my control panel, but I want to use wired controllers since it will all be enclosed in a cabinet. Is it the same as using wireless controller? And does anyone know of a tutorial for that?

Second: Which is better for the joysticks, the ones with the micro-switches or the PCB? Which one is easier?

Third: What soldering iron should I purchase, what wattage, and what solder is best? I know these seem like noob questions but I have soldered electrical before but not many PCBs, and I want to make sure I use the most correct parts.

Fourth: Maybe someone can help with this. I want to get some vinyl printed up for the cabinets side art and control panel, but don't know where to get it done, and which type of vinyl to use. Does anyone know?

Fifth: I have some cabinet plans but still not sure what design to go with so if anyone has any suggestions, great!

Sixth: I have looked at a lot of posts that list supply sites for arcade and stick parts, but a lot of links are down. So if anyone know of good sites for these besides LizardLick.com and FocusAttack.com please post them

Thanks guys all feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I cant answer all your questions but I am currently making a a console/mame cabinet. I've actually been playing the new Mortal Kombat on it. I've been using my xbox 360 but I can use a ps3 with it.

I use happ competition joysticks mainly because thats what i used growing up. I use an akishop ps360 which you can find on focusattack.com. I would also look into controller hacks, people here sell them hacked and ready to wire.

Also check out arcadeemulator.net and groovygamegear.com for parts.

I can answer a few of them, I think;

1: A wired Xbox 360 controller will work in windows (XP on up), maybe even easier than a wired controller. You just need drivers from Microsoft.

4: I'm not sure if it's vinyl (I don't think it is) but I know they have some great side art at www.gameongrafix.com and www.emdkay.net

5: If you want a Mortal Kombat cab, I would try to make it look similar to the styles used on the MK1-3 cabs. Maybe google images for some ideas.

Hope some of this helps!

Are you sure? It looks like an original MK cabinet. A Simpsons Bowling has 2 seperate coin slots, no?
I'm trying to rebuild this cab with my MK 4. But I'm not sure if the LCD they used fits my cab...

Not sure exactly what to say here, but i have done everything possible MK related. From my experience the easiest thing to do is get an authentic MK cabinet. You can get the ASUS gaming LCD they used in the SF championships and have zero scan line issues and utilize your 360 as well. The only issue is building a shelf for it like this:

Soldering I cannot help you out there. Joysticks I use the Happ competition 8 ways for that authentic feel in gameplay. The art is tough unless you know someone like I do, alot of people refuse to print trademarked stuff for obvious reasons. If you have trouble locating a print shop I can help you with that. I buy mostly everything from twistedquarter, his prices are reasonable and has just about everything you would need.

Or if space is an issue, you can easily build a bartop like mine:
Current Cab's
Dedicated Killer Instinct 1
Mortal Kombat 1,2,3
Terminator 2
Rampage WT
WWF Wrestlemania
MAME MK1
Zelda Theme Bartop
