Ipac + Ultrastick + Ms. Pac-Man 4 way connection question
« on: April 20, 2011, 09:05:49 am »
Here the situation;

I have one Ultrastick connected in output mode to an Ipac (Player1 L-R-U-D to be exact) and everything work flawlessly. Problem is, I don't like how my Ultrastik move in diagonals when I play a 2/4 way game, so I brought one Ms Pac-Man joystick.

I would like to connect my 4 way for the player one in the exact same connections that my Ultrastick use on my Ipac, but I'm not sure about the wiring.

Connecting 2 regular cherry switch in parallel is not a problem, but what about an Ultrastick in output mode + a 4 way connected together? What could append if the 4 way 5v return to the Ultratick output? Did I need to add some diodes on the Ultrastick wires? Any idea?

Just a quick question....

Why are you not outputting the U360 through USB? That's where you get the full benefits of such an expensive stick.

Not sure if you're saying you don't like the mechanical diagonal movements or if your U360 is triggering diagonal inputs in your I-PAC (like up and right at the same time). If it's a mechanical thing, you can get restrictors for it. If it's the other, you need to map your U360 for 4-way games so diagonals will be disabled in those games...

Also if you output through USB as Ginsu Victim says, you probably wouldn't even need an I-PAC if you used your U360 in input mode for your buttons...

I use the USB for analog, but 8/4/2 modes are seen by the Ipac like simple keystrokes. Like this, every PC games or emu that require kb arrows will works without any script.

I do understand that my Ultrastik can do 4 ways, i'm not that dumb. :P The output mode of the Ultrastick is only used while playing a 8/4/2 ways game. When the stick is on analog, it doesn't output anything on the input/output wires, there's a little check box for that in the Ultramaps software.

The mecanical movement of the Ultrastick is the problem. I hate it, and using a top restrictor for my Ultrastick is out of the question. My control panel as to be children proof.  ::)

You can connect both to the same U/D/R/L points, same player, on the interface if you want.  No problem.  Both sticks will work all the time and you can jump in and backseat drive when your kid, buddy or SO is stinking it up with lame play.

However, put the U360 on USB, it's what I did, you still will want to be able to flash it for different games unless you are hardcore classics only.
