U-Trak Lighting Not Very Visible
« on: April 20, 2011, 06:33:02 am »
I ordered a u-trak with the pearl ball and the RGB lighting module for it and with the led's on it is hardly visible its lit up unless the room is completely black. Compared to my Electric Ice pushbuttons from groovy gamer gear it doesn't even look like its lit up. Is this normal? I was going to take a pic of it, but my camera makes it look alot more lit up that it really is. Is there another ball I can get for it that will let more light through?

Is they RGB module itself bright? if it is, then yeah, you probably just need a different kind of ball. I've got transluscent 3" blue balls for my trackballs and they light up quite brightly (I'm using a single white LED though, not the RGB). You can clearly see them lit from across the room in a brightly lit room.

I'd guess the pearl is a little too opaque.

How are you lighting the RGB module ( what is it connected to ? ) Because they are high intensity LEDs which i believe are like 100 ma vs the 20ma that a normal RGB LED is .

I have the red ball in my U-Trak, and I tapped the +5 from the USB adaptor in the U-Trak (with advice from Andy on where to tap in the interface). It lights up nicely.

I have the RGB Module that ultimarc sales for the u-trak and it s hooked up to my ledwiz and powered by the usb from the led wiz. I just tried hooking the led's up to the powersupply thats in my cab with the same results. That was the only thing hooked to it aswell.

Something must be wrong because these units use two 100mA LEDs per color and are very bright.  When you tried direct power were you getting 5 volts at the connection?

It should be unpleasant to look at if it is working at full brightness. I'm absolutely not advising to try this, but if you turn it on, and can tell that you shouldn't look at it, then it's working.
