AimTrak mapping issues in Mame
« on: April 18, 2011, 10:53:32 pm »
Hello,

I'm having issues setting up my AimTrak gun in mame. If it's just a single button game I can get things working ok, but not convinced it's correct. However, if I try mapping either the AUX or P1 button I have real issues. First thing, if I do a simple setup of Trigger = Left Mouse Button and AUX = Right Mouse Button when I got to map the Trigger in mame is will show up as Gun 2 B0, AUX will also show up as Gun 2 B0. Shouldn't these be different?
Now things get even more crazy if I map AUX or P1 to GP1-8 in the AimTrak GUI. GP1 will show up as Joy 1 B0, but will also cause unstoppable down scroll in the mame front-end when the button is pressed. Same thing happens with the rest of the GP button mappings, but depending on the number will scroll up instead and cause multiple values be assigned in Mame. Ex: GP 3 will be something like Joy 1 up, Joy 1 left, Joy 1 up. This makes it virtually impossible to play any 2-3 button shooting game properly.
I've set up everything as it should be per the instructions provided on Ultimarc. Anyone able to help me out?

-Kyle

I seem to have figured it out. I had to unmap any Joystick movement in mame (which is fine since I'm using an Ipac). Also had to set Joystick to 0 in the Mame32UI.ini to stop the scrolling issue. All appears to be fine, for now...

I'm having the same problem with the unstoppable scrolling. I disabled the joystick like you, but it seems to have disabled GP1 (which is what AUX is mapped to) as well when I try to configure it to P1 Button 2 in the Carnevil MAME setup. Did you run into this too?

Bumping an old thread as I thought it would be easier.

I'm having this problem too, both Aimtrak mouse buttons appear as B0 in MAME, and no matter what I try, I can't get them configured as separate buttons. If I make a controller cfg file and assign them there, it seems to set them correctly in the config as buttons B0 and B1, but if I try playing Time Crisis, the right mouse button just jumps to the lower left corner of the screen, and somehow it also still seems to be working as the trigger as I get the message about using the pedal to get out from cover.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

What are your offscreen buttons mapped to in the Aimtrak utility? Make them the same as the onscreen actions if you don't plan on using offscreen reload.

The trigger is mapped to right mouse offscreen. I disabled that and offscreen reload in MAME and that made them work fine, but then I remembered that loads of other emulators use right mouse for reloading... this is really hard to get my head around.

Just wanted to revive the thread and say Im having the same issues. Ive disabled the other button but cant play games that require a reload button or a button to throw grenades/bombs. Ok I can play them but eh, not great. From what i can tell the buttons press a diagonal direction just once when pressed, then function normally. is it possible that the calibration is disabled all but one initial flicker? At least thats what it looks like in the button mapping screen.  I clearly have the enable calibration OFF on my buttons in the config menu. If anyone has the enable calibration boxes checked it will do this too, make sure they are not checked. Even unchecked though, similar issues. I can get games to work fine but still have the scrolling issue on exit, no bueno. I've contacted Andy from ultimarc and hopefully will have some answers soon, Ill report back......
