Winipac failing to program, plz help
« on: April 18, 2011, 06:48:04 pm »
Hi, I just finished my first MAME cab and I am trying to get my minipac to program correctly.

It was working fine at first, I could program the buttons on my cp and whatnot.

However, I accidentally hit the option to "update firmware" and that opened a pandoras box of crap that has stopped my minipac from working.

Whenever I open winipac and tell it to "program" it installs the driver successfully but then it says "Failed to program device"

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling.  Unplugging and replugging the usb cable.  I've tried the older version of the winipac software.  I've scoured the web for solutions.  I've found people that have had similar problems but no solution to my problem.

I am using the newest version of Windows XP.

If anyone has any ideas on how to help, please do.  I am pretty annoyed with the whole thing right now.  I just want it to work like it did when I first plugged the thing in.

Coudnt you delete all the data, drivers, and so on then just have it start like it was brand new. Iv never used one but just try uninstalling everything for it and start over. Not just the data but the drivers for it to.

I've been trying that all day.

I think the firmware on the actual minipac is messed up.  I tried plugging it into another computer and it didn't work.  Is there a way to reset a minipac to factory settings or something?

Anyone else know anything that could help?

Best bet is to send an email to Andy at Ultimarc.  He has seen it all and helps out all the time.

Now I'm worried my minipac might be dead.  My computer doesn't recognize it when I plug it in via usb.  I've even tried plugging it into another computer and it doesn't recognize anything being plugged in either.  The LED on the minipac doesn't come on, nor does the LED on my USB port.

It's very frustrating that so many problems have been caused by pressing the "update firmware" option in winipac.

I'm in the same boat.. except with a J-PAC. Bumped the upgrade button while navigating around the menus. I would've expected some sort of confirmation dialog?
I'm ready to 'upgrade' to the original firmware but I can't find the firmware file anywhere.

http://www.ultimarc.com/fwupgrade.html
"You will also need the appropriate firmware (UFW) file."

I need the version for the latest J-PAC. Anyone have it or know where to find it?

Best bet is to send an email to Andy at Ultimarc.

Yep, do that. Find your version number before mailing him.

Click "Start", "Control Panel", "System", "Hardware", "Device Manager" and right-click on the "HID Keyboard Device".
Click "Properties", "Details",  then in the drop-down select "Hardware IDs". The version follows "Rev" in the displayed string., for example "Rev_0026" is version 26.

Then drop him an email.

I assume he doesn't want to make it publicly available due to reverse engineering or the fact that old versions of firmware may be floating around.
