Quick button layout question
« on: April 16, 2011, 11:33:28 am »
I see a lot of control panels with the basic Street Fighter layout straight 6 pack button, but then I see a lot that put a 7th button where your thumb would be. What is the use of this button? Are people using this as primary fire on older games such as Galaga? Seems like an awkward location for a primary fire button.

The 7th button is there to mimic the Neo Geo layout.

It's also there for the run button on MK3

I really love that CP layout and the rgbs with the black centers.  If I ever do another CP, I am going to shamelessly rip this one off.

Why are there only 4 buttons for player 2?

Love those buttons.

That's not player 2, it's player 3 (assuming the 7 button layout is player 1 instead of player 2). Check out The Two-Headed Beast. Thanks.

I'm not a fan of the 7-button layout for the old reason of 'feeling like a proper Neo-Geo' and think for most instances it's overkill, but can see how a thumb button would be good for a dedicated MK series cabinet.

Not a fan of the seven button lay out either.  But dang Nephasth those buttons you made look good.  I am about to buy light up buttons from ultramarc.  Will the Ultramarc buttons work that way 2?

Not sure what you're asking. If you're asking if you can light them different colors for different games, yes. You would need Ultimarc's RGB bayonet LEDs and their white Ultralux buttons (and use an LED controller like the PACLED64 for example along with software such as LED Blinky). If you're asking if you can light them up for the "ring of light" effect, I'm not sure. To do that you have to order twice as many buttons as you need. Half the order in clear/translucent (for the outer part of the buttons) and the other half in solid (for the plunger). And it doesn't look like Ultimarc sells Ultralux buttons in solid colors, so unless the plungers of a different type of button can fit in an Ultralux body, I would have to say no.

I've used the ultralux buttons and can't say for sure if other plungers wouldn't fit, but I can say their design is very different to other buttons, with a wider gap inside for the LED fitment and wider spring coil diameter, so I doubt you could do this.
