Best Sports Games
« on: April 15, 2011, 11:52:45 pm »
I'm trying to gather a list of games for my cabinet that is basically sports games.  But only good ones.  Any ideas?

For what it is worth, the NBA Jam series is awesome.  It is super fun to go through the different versions of the game and beating them.

I am going through some soccer games and so far I am most impressed with the original Super Side Kicks.

And if this thread has already been done, let me know.

I love the track and field games, but man, those games are GRUELING. I am always sweating by the end of a match at that. I really enjoy both NFL blitz, and high impact football.
And I agree with Cyberball. Robots should be playing football on my TV right now.

What about the old school ATARI football game with the trackball. (X's & O's)
Another old school game I spent my college fund on - Super Basketball
Another basketball game - Double Dribble

Hat Trick is a seriously great hockey game.

It is. Simple, great gameplay.  Much better vs human then vs computer.  Additionally, I am hopelessly addicted to it's 2 on 2/top down Soccer cousin - Power Play, but I love the vs computer game play on this one.  Never tried vs. human on this 'cause I didn't know it in the arcade and my mame controller is single player.

How about Golden Tees '97, '98, '99 and 2k.  Great fun.

Bowling games w/ trackball are fun too.  Krazy bowl is silly, loud and loads of fun to play.  A great beer drinking game.  A more serious bowling game with great game play is World Class bowling.  Same makers as Golden Tee.

I have to disagree with arcade Punchout. That game is hard to control, and I get stomped a dismaying amount of times. By dismaying, I mean every. But it also brings me dismay.

Well Super Side Kicks is a good en IMO.

Getting my cab was partly due to playing that on my laptop around a year ago. The flashy effects and fast, pick up and play gameplay, made me immersed in a way that left me amazed and feeling like a little kid. I'm not much of a football fan as well! LOL

If you have an Amiga emu running on your cabinet:

Goal
Speedball 2

Both great games to have in a cab especially running via WHDLoad

I'm with javeryh on this one. One of my favourite games of all time.

Windjammers is also a great Neo-Geo player vs. player sports game. It's like Arena Frisbee Hockey!
