Power supply How to Remove Safely, Help
« on: April 12, 2011, 05:03:03 pm »
I have a rampage / converted to ESWAT

I need to remove all of the power supply parts from the bottom of the cab, are their any safety concerns? Don't want to get shocked in the process. Thanks

You will have far more risk from going anyway near the monitor than the power supply.

As for the power supply, if any caps aren't fully discharged, you could ground them (och).  You just need to be careful pulling it all out.  Also, you can search how to safely discharge a cap (please note you have to keep them grounded as then can build a charge back up after you discharge them once).

the monitor has already been removed as well as the game boards i essentially got a plain cabinet with speakers (that i unhooked) and the power supply on the floor of the machine. How would i ground the caps. i just dont want to reach in and get shocked. Any advice on that or disposal?

I don't want to provide directions on ground caps due to the dangerous nature of it.  I would encourage you to search on the Internet or let a more experienced memeber than I give you safe directions on this procedure.

An old arcade supply usually does not hold any bad surprises in its caps.   New PC or switching supplies however can give quite a jolt if the insides are touched.  If you do not stick your hand inside the wiring you will be perfectly safe to remove the supply by holding its sides.  The voltages involved are low compared the the HV in a monitor.

Grabbing it by the side should be ok.  Toss a picture up.  Let's see what you are taking on.
