Hi All,

I have tried everything must spent about 7 hours trying to get this going now.
Ready to give up and install XP :) Dont want to have to do this.

I bought ArcadeVGA 3000 PCI-e, but no matter what I do I cant get it working with Windows 7 32bit with Direct3d
"FATAL ERROR: Failed Creating Direct3d device." Opening SF4

Mame works, gameex does work with modified DirectDraw installer.
But StreetFighter 4 PC, Project64, Std GameEx all have Direct3d problem,
The DirectX Diagnostic Tool (Dxdiag.exe) shows the DirectDraw option or theDirect3D option as unavailable.

Its 2.3 Dual Core Compaq DC5850. Windows 7 32BIt
Originally had Board Graphics was ATI 3100, but used ATI CAT-Uninstaller to remove old ATI drivers,
Installed Win 7 ArcadeVGA 3000 driver from Ultimarc's website.
Its shows correctly in DeviceMgr. But no DirectX available on it.

Have I correctly installed the latest Win 7 32bit Drivers?  Show as 15.51.46.734
Could I install XP\Vista Drivers on Win 7 to make any difference, seems to be few AracdeVGA threads on this
Like: http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=9538

Its DirectX missing more than SF4 issue, as breaks other emulations too that require it.
What versions of Directx does card support?

From Attached DXDiag in last email:
DDraw Status: Not Available
D3D Status: Not Available
AGP Status: Not Available

I have tried following:
 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/191660

Card name: Ultimarc ArcadeVGA3000.
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip type: ATI display adapter (0x958F)
DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz)
Device Key: Enum\PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_958F&SUBSYS_05021002&REV_00
Display Memory: 1265 MB
Dedicated Memory: 501 MB
Shared Memory: 763 MB

Thanks all, any help appreciated
Kevin

Hey thanks for suggestion.
Tried it, was in the MS KB :)
At it another 3 hours here now, this is killing me :)

OK at present uninstalling 8.9.00 Drivers for ArcadeVGA again,
ran CCleaner to cleanup Catalyst registry, none of those links work, deleted directories too.

Now on Std Windows Graphics Drivers, 800*600, 16htz
DDraw Status: Enabled
D3D Status: Not Available
AGP Status: Enabled
And Display Adv Settings can get into troubleshooting Tab
And see Hardware Acceleration is up to MAX.

THIS Works on basic Drivers but not with ArcadeVGA ATI Drivers....
WHY WHY.... not work with supplied drivers...

Next rebooting into SAFE Mode and reinstalling ArcadeVGA 3000 Win 7 32 drivers....

Ooh boy... Fingers crossed!!!

I have a theory, but I don't think you're going to like it.

I think that since your computer uses an AMD/ATI chipset, and has integrated ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics,  when you run the Catalyst Cleaner, it removes some of the chipset drivers, leaving your computer partially crippled.

You might need to install the chipset drivers for your motherboard, then boot into safe mode and force the ArcadeVGA drivers to install.  Then reboot and pray a lot.

Catalyst Cleaner might be the problem.

It's possible that it may never work.  I'd send an email to andy @ ultimarc.com and see if he has any thoughts.

Hey Thanks a million for that.

I have now installed XP on separate HDD and exact same issues.
So your theory might be right.
As having same issue with XP and Win 7 32 bit.

Maybe CatUbinstaller messed up BIOS, I dont know much about it
but when I first started this I ran CatUni as suggested by andys site
and only after then finding out how to troubleshoot

Its often said to disable Onboard ATI in BIOS,
but I cant see anything about Graphics Card in BIOS?
So Maybe CatUni removed taht part.

I tried using HP DC5850 Minitower ATI Chipset from HP Site
and installed, then into Safemode.

No change in Bios and OS still showing same issues in Directd3d in DXDIAG :(

Would BIOS Reset to factory help maybe?
Im lost now in regards to that part.

Thanks, Kev

CatUninstaller cannot modify your BIOS.  It can only remove drivers and entries from the windows registry.

I'm not sure what to tell you at this point other than I hate HP and Compaq for exactly this kind of crap. :)

Here's the manual for the BIOS...

http://bizsupport1.austin.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c01361573/c01361573.pdf

From page 12...

PCI VGA Configuration Displayed only if there are one or more PCI graphics controllers in the system and the integrated video is enabled. Allows you to specify which VGA controller will be the “boot” or primary VGA
controller.

Device Options

Allows you to set:

* Integrated Video (enable/disable). Allows you to use integrated video and PCI Up Solution video at the same time (available on some models only).

NOTE: After Integrated Video is enabled and changes saved, a new menu item appears under Advanced to allow you to select the primary VGA controller video device.

Do you have access to a PCIe Nvidia based video card?

Here's what I'd do...

1) disable the onboard video in your motherboard BIOS
2) plug in the Nvidia PCIe card
3) format and re-install windows
4) swap out the Nvidia card for the ArcadeVGA
5) boot into safe mode and install the ArcadeVGA drivers
6) reboot into windows to see if it worked

I wouldn't worry about installing any specific drivers for your motherboard.  See if Windows 7 already has them.  You'll be able to tell from looking in Device Manager after you install windows.

Hey

Come ere thanks so much for all ur help in this, no idea how much its helped
Still no luck but least not on my own in this 50 hours of troubeshooting :)
Emailing Andy to on this.

I have no extra Graphics Card, I bought this PC for Mame in Mind, but having no luck.
But I will try get one.

So Far tonight, trying to go back to Basics.

In BIOS enabled Surround View from ur useful PDF.
Now when turn on PC, XP sees both Video Card, ArcadeVGA installed, other unknown.

Surround View (enable/disable). This enables the ATI Surround View option that allows the
integrated graphics controller and an ATI PCI Express graphics card to work at the same time
for multi-monitor support.

Still cant see extra options in BIOS to set one as default.

Next in Device Manager, Disabled ArcadeVGA Card, rebooted
And Installed DC5850 ATI Radeon 3100 Drivers and Low and behold, WHOOP,
Directd3d, Direct Draw, Directx ALL WORKING

At least I know it Works on this PC now :) Just ArcadeVGA thats no working.
Tempted to play with this and Soft 15k tool (havent used it before) and link VGA to Ultimarc VidAmp
Hopefully 3100 ati no issues power 5v etc...

Just want to try getting things configured and play around,
Then maybe try get back to ArcadeVGA Issue again on Saturday.

Im starting to wonder if ArcadeVGA I malfunctioning one
or is onboard graphics cause.

You think ur last procedure definitely worth try to get nVidia Card and try that?
Any reasons this may help?

Thanks
Kev

My thought is that if you completely disable the onboard ATI video and install Windows using a cheap Nvidia card, then no ATI video drivers will ever be loaded.  Then you should be able to swap cards and install the ArcadeVGA (possibly in safe mode if needed) without any driver conflits and without the need to run Cat-Uninstaller.

Well, that's the thought anyway.

Another thing you might want to consider is making sure you have the latest system BIOS update from HP for your computer.  Sometimes, they resolve hardware compatibility issues with BIOS updates.  It's worth a shot.  Make double-triple sure that you've got the right BIOS version because you can kill your computer with a botched BIOS update.

Well I certainly give it a shot, try get hold of another Card, nVidia, ill ask around.
Or maybe try source another PC, and keep in mind onboard\ATI Graphic Card issues etcs...
Also checking with Andy incase ArcadeVGA is faulty.

As When I bought new HDD this week, when I installed XP, onboard ATI was disabled in BIOS,
It didnt show in Device manager, so no ATI Drivers were installed.
And only ATI that touched XP was ArcadeGA Drivers.

So just maybe, maybe ArcadeVGA is faulthy.
But ill try nVidia work around to if at all possible.

Playing Around with GameEx, HyperSpin, P64 and Mame here now, all working and installed SF4 on XP :)

Hey All…

Good news and bad news…

Bad news was after over 30 hours of trying every trick under then sun, I found out it was all a complete waste of my time.
Could have used that 30 hours to configure the bemammoth that is HyperSpin :)

Good News – IT WAS A FAULTY ArcadeVGA card!!!
I gave up and decided card must be faulty, sent back old one, and had to wait 2 weeks but after receiving it.
Ran ATI Cat-Uninstaller, rebooted, Installed XP Drivers and all working perfect!!!!

All taking 10 minutes vs 30 hours.
Hopefully this will help anyone else in future if having similar issue.

Next up must try to get picture to Center and fit in the screen, ArcadePerfect doesn’t quite manage it.
Its 640*480 but im missing about 15% on left and right sides of Monitor.
Also SF4 works fine at 60fps for a while until CPU goes to 99%
and get to wire up my Cp this weekend too. Finally get to play some games.

Thanks to Andy for sending out new card and to krick for all your help!!!
Much much Appreciated,
Kev
