Mortal Kombat 9 Options?
« on: April 03, 2011, 08:16:31 am »
Greets, its been awhile since I've needed some input in the cab department.  With the upcoming release of MK9 I'd really like to get that running in my cab.  My understanding is it won't be released on PC, which leaves me with either a 360 or a ps3.  After running a dreamcast in the cab for a while, (got tired of swapping discs, MAME+Hyperspin really spoils you) I took it out.

What I would like to do is be able to run a loader like i did with my original Xbox, and just load the game up from the cab via the hdd.  It would seem I missed the jtag party with the 360 as they are the only one's able to run homebrew/loaders etc.  Which leads me to the ps3.  I know you can load them with custom firmware, but are they practical to toss into a cab?  My setup is a dynamo "BIG BOY" cab with a multisyc 27'' betson screen crammed in there :).

so any thoughts on how to proceed?

thanks for the space.

I would check to see if there is a controller adapter for arcade control's becuase hacking the pad would be a pain and if you need the analog stick's it may not happen.

I dont own a ps3 so I have no clue if they even have adapter's for it but you may want to see if it is the D-pad that is going to be used or the analog stick for movement.

I have a game informer mag and the game look's sick though

X Arcade has a nice PS3 interface for arcade controls.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

Mk9 is using the d-pad, you don't have to worry about hackin anything analog. I am using an xb 360 in my cab, along with a pc for name. Mk9 was the straw that convinced me to add the 360

I'd wait and see if I could get a jtag if I were you, it's much more arcade friendly the games and the game loader. Just look at videos on youtube

Yeah, if you don't have one, get a jtag.  But good luck finding one at a decent price, and don't expect to be able to play online with it.

I may have lucked out and scored the correct version 360.  The dashboard version is well before the cutoff.   Gotta give this Jtag stuff a run this weekend.   To those with 360's in their cabs, did you hack them controllers like the dreamcast way or is there a more elegant solution? Also any tips or reccomendations for the Jtag procedure would be greatly appreciated.

I hacked some sfiv gamepads. Nice thing about them is that they have a switch that allows you to use you joystick as the d pad, or either of the analog sticks. The solder points are generally pretty easy and there are no analog triggers to mess with, everything is digital

One thing worth noting about the MadCatz Fightpad is that when you use the joystick as the analog sticks, they behave like a digital stick (on / off).
