Hi - I'm in the middle of my first build after just finding out about MAME cabinets a few weeks ago. I went to DisneyQuest in Orlando and stumbled into an 80's arcade with my kids. I was in high school in the early 80's, so I immediately fell in love with the place. My 16-year-old son spent the first 5 minutes mocking the games (Look at those graphics! How could you even play those!", etc., etc.). Long story short, after 2 minutes of Asteroids, he was hooked.
My cabinet is almost done, except for painting, artwork, marquee, etc., so I've turned my attention to the control panel. My wish list for this panel included two 8-way joysticks (GGG True-leaf), a dedicated 4-way (GGG True4), a trackball (Happ 3 in.), spinner (GGG Turbowist 2) and an Asteroids button layout. I've drawn up several drafts and think I have a pretty good idea of what I'd like and where I'd like it, but I'd appreciate any feedback or criticism anyone might offer (good or bad). As you can see, player 1 and two are straight six button layout, although I may offset the two rows slightly like Knievel does in his panels. I tried to keep the trackball as far forward on the panel as possible and moved the hyperspace Asteroids button up to keep them separated. I know it's a lot of space to devote to a single game (or a few like it), but it's one of my favorites. I also figured I could use these buttons for the 4-way stick and possibly as admin buttons(with a shift function?).
Anyway, any feedback is much appreciated!
