First jukebox build
« on: March 27, 2011, 06:13:33 pm »
This is my first attempt at anything like this before. It has a 500gb hd, (overkill but  it was a good price) AMD quad core CPU, 600watt power supply, 290 watt JVC home A/V receiver, (more overkill but I'm not one to turn down a freebie) a pair of Sony floor speakers I had laying around, another pair of freebie home theater speakers and a 15" ELO touchscreen from ebay. The cabinet itself is framed with 1x2s and will be enclosed with 1/4 MDF. For cooling I have a pair of 120mm blue LED fans to draw cool air in and will have another pair on top to blow how air out. As far as lighting goes I have a pair of sound activated Cold Cathodes.

I like the idea of using all the old stuff, but, it really looks huge. Maybe I'm just not getting a good picture of the end result in my minds eye.

You say skinned with MDF?, but then what? Laminate, paint, something else?

Not trying to be a downer, just trying to get an idea of where you're heading

as an example, the Rat rod project is definitely one to check out if you haven't yet

I saw the Rat Rod, looks awesome.

It is pretty big because I wanted it about the size of a regular juke. I'm still thinking about the outside. More than likely I'll end up painting it black with some chrome trim. I've got some diamond tread plate that's going to go between the lower speakers. For the main panel where the monitor is I'm going to sandblast a design in the plexi and light it up with LEDs.
