Aimtrak Question
« on: March 17, 2011, 04:50:50 pm »
Just picked up a few PS1 guns really cheap and would like to know if they are suitable to use with the aimtrak. Also would I need a USB adapter or does the aimtrak have its own cable. Here are the guns:

They won't work.  You can gut the guns and install the AimTrak PCB in them, assuming the PCB will fit.

They will work with aimtraks.  The aimtraks come with their own usb connections.  You basically gut everything out of the gun except the trigger and buttons

Excellant just the answer I was looking for. Does anyone know if I could still use the reload pedal.

probably could.  You would have to extend a wire from the pcb, out the gun, to the pedal

Using the pedal as is would be pretty impractical to try and piggy back off the aimtrack setup for a button. You'd be better off just hacking the pedal directly to the PC assigned as some other key.

So long as the pedal uses a switch of some type, wire that to a single Key stroke and in Mame assign that key as the reload, or "hide" or whatever button (should work I think).

I've modded the guns before, and I've created some more complicated pedals that use potentiometers, but for that I hacked a separate joystick.... so ... it can be done, it just depends on how much you want to customize things.
