So Confused
« on: March 06, 2011, 10:17:41 am »
OK, so a few years ago I started looking to build a MAME setup. Hurricane Ike slowed me down. Now I'm back in it. Cabinet has been semi built for a long time, PC works fine, etc, etc. My cunfusion is on the control interface. I bought the GPWIZ40MAX a long time ago. Even went with Molex plugs so I can swap control panels to make it more authentic for different games.

My confusion is the interface. What I gather so far, the GPWIZ40MAX is an HID to appear as a Joystick, along with buttons. So if I want to use a PC based game, I need a keyboard controller like the KeyWiz40-ST.

The idea is to be able to swap to different style games, old and modern in a arcade style. Since the GPWIZ40MAX is a Joystick style interface, the buttons can't be mapped to keyboard commands? I looked around for software, but I'm not sure. Am I thinking correctly?

There is a program called xpadder that maps gamepad buttons to a keyboard.
