Amp and speaker setup
« on: February 26, 2011, 05:39:23 pm »
I'm getting all my ducks in a row for the start of my juke build and I have some questions regarding car amplifier and speaker setup and how it relates to typical household hookup:

I know I can do it, just not real clear how to do it?  :dunno I plan to have an extra PC power supply to tie into seperate from the one running the main PC!

1) I'm sure I want to run a low wattage car amp and speakers to drive the sound of my juke. Can i hook up a car amplifier to the 12v leads of a standard PC power supply?

2) What is better...2ohm, 4ohm, etc;

3) Those of you running LED and neon lights in your systems, are they just tied into 12v leads of your PC power supplies as well?

Thanks for any help!

I have ran a 400 watt Superblue Prymaid car amp off of a computer power source. The only problem is when you turn up the volume to loud the my stereo had an auto safety on it that would turn it off. I'm not sure why maybe to many amps being asked for I'm not for sure. If anybody would enlighten me it would be great. But thats what I ran into. So i would be rocking it out and then the song would cut out. I would have to turn down the volume wait till it came back on then turn it up a little more to still be able to hear it. I was about to take it all apart but wanted one more song. And I turned it all the way up and then the stereo started to smoke and wouldn't turn on again. So if you haven't I would do more research. I just did it to do it. I didn't know if it would work but it did. But besides that the thing will get loud. I only had it set up to some 6x9's.
