Pac-Machina

As a regular reader of HaD, I'm truly astonished this one missed my radar. I'm even more astonished that I originally missed his intent behind the project, which is to auction it off and put the money towards Child's Play.

Jonathan M. Guberman intends to build an Electro-Mechanical version of Pac-Man (the only thing that would virtually guarantee him permanent residency in any arcade hall of fame would be if he were to make it truly mechanical  >:D ) by mechanizing the characters and play field. The game logic and "power" driving the gears will be electrical using a motor and a microcontroller.

It's not the first time SteamPunk or DieselPunk fans create a "mechanical" version of Pac-Man but those have always been non-functioning. Just for show. And to be honest, kind of against the spirit of the whole mechanizing idea.

What sucks is that Namco made it very clear they didn't want him selling kits of this thing. Too bad, that would've been one hell of a conversation piece.
