wiring the ultrastick 360
« on: February 23, 2011, 02:29:36 pm »
Hello everyone ^^

I'm building a bartop mamecab, I bought 2 ultrastick 360 with 7 buttons each.

I got a question about wiring the buttons

I took the harness with the joystick of course
here's how it looks

now there's an explanation but I'm not sure if I get it.

Apprently the black cable (2) is for the ground and I have to make a chain from this one to all the button I have?

thank you for your help

here's a link at the ultimarc site

Can the shift function still be used with buttons wired through a U360? I'm unsure since each button appears as a gamepad button on the computer.

If you use the ultrastick in output mode to an ipac then all the regular shift functions in the ipac are available.

If I have a 4 player CP and 4 U360s I would have no need for an IPAC if shift functions worked through the U360's input mode. This is why I'm asking. I guess the better question would be does the U360 support shift functions while in input mode?

Edit: Nevermind, found it. I didn't scroll down far enough. :banghead:

The new shift button functionality works like this:
Button 8 is the shift button
This button has its normal function, unchanged
In addition to its normal function, when held down, it will activate "virtual buttons" 9-15. Any other buttons pressed will register as 9-15 instead of 1-7.
In MAME you might wish to configure, for example, button 9 as "coin". Then holding button 8 and pressing button 1 will generate the "coin" signal.
You can test all button functions by going to Control Panel, Game Controllers, Properties.
This firmware does not contain any other chnages from 2.3 and if you do not wish to have the shift function you can use 2.3 version.

Awesome  :)

Hey that sounds great.  Andy is improving things all the time.  Hard to keep up :D But doesn't the shift function cause the key to register on release like the ipac? This means that each set of 8 keys will have one that registers on release instead of when pushed to accommodate the shift function

It says the shift button is button 8. It would make sense to have button 8 be the start button so button 8's shift function wouldn't get in the way of game play.
