Arcade Game Tables?
« on: February 22, 2011, 02:29:52 pm »
Anyone seen these before? Nice execution, (somewhat expensive) but reasonable pricing...why they gotta leave the dust washers up top I'll never know...just gonna scratch that pretty thing up! Others may hate this design, (not me, I love minimalism), but if this is not your cup of tea, they also have a beautiful retro looking cocktail too, much like an old asteroids...Worth a look IMHO...

I personally think the dust washers need to be on top. But whatever, that's another argument for another time.

I like it. I would change that "cubby hole" they decided to put the controls in. It looks so small that I can't imagine my big fat hands would fit. Plus I tend to angle my elbows out instead of in. Maybe make it bigger or trim the sides to go out at an angle instead of square. Doing that would also give a little more room to place those white control buttons too.

I agree SavannahLion that the control panel opening should be larger, perhaps at an angle like you mentioned, or a end-to-end rectangular opening. Maybe they have crap stuffed up in that void internally, but I cant imagine what..

And I'm gonna start another thread on the dust washers, I'd like to hear peoples reasoning... ;D

For 3,000+ dollars one could build a really nice cab from scratch. then again if you are not the diy type... cool looking design though!

I would like a design that would incorporate a (LCD) fish tank or a z or N scale model train track surround to add to the youthful aspect.  Arcade gaming is throwback to our youth.  Why not add something to the mix.  I like the above design, but it would have to be retro.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

I doubt one would want a Z scale train inside their cab, even a cocktail. A rough game session is almost guaranteed to derail such a light train. Heck, I've derailed my old scale trains just accidently bumping into the table.

I was assuming the glass overlay is about the size of the monitor. Given that, the table really isn't very big. Probably right around 2' maybe? Probably expected to spread your legs and let your doodle hang out.

Their site is a damn joke. This is the description on that product:

Quote
The people who brought back the video arcade gaming table of the 80s, now present a new table for your playing pleasure.

A German designed sleek and sexy contemporary product to complement the most stylish space station interiors. Available in two non-colours: deep space obsidian and supernova white. High gloss, easy care 10 coat two-pack and glass exterior. There are no join-lines to be seem !

High definition LCD screen—89° viewing angle. High precision, aerospace grade controls. Quality Japanese componentry. Space bass speaker system. 60 games pre-installed.

For $3,500, they are clearly targeting people who know jack ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- about arcade cabinets. Where are the dimensions? Screen size? Weight? I'll bet the monitor is the smallest they can reliably obtain.

yeah they got some air play on engadget.com 2 days ago.. i personally do not like it my self..  not cause of the shape just the little things..  like the control panel for example.   that box would be to small for my hands i would fear.

And I'm gonna start another thread on the dust washers, I'd like to hear peoples reasoning... ;D

How about to actually keep dust out?  :P
The only time dust washers go below is with a thin metal CP.  I'm assuming that thing is just wood/MDF.

Actually, looks like some of their CPs are metal and do appear to have the washers below (hard to tell):

Yea, nothing personal about the site or the company or anything like that, but that thing is pretty awkward looking.   :dunno

Possibly not; there is a Sanwa stick I've seen with very small dust washers about that size. Either way, yes they should sty above the panel to allow the most freedom of movement. 'dust washer' is just a descriptive term; really all they're for is to cover the ugliness of the hole.

I put the washers on the top of my metal CP.

Except for the legs, I like that design. The joystick looks a little close to the table top, though. Big hands equals sore knuckles.
