Lunar Lander Panel Lights and Mame
« on: February 19, 2011, 02:50:16 pm »
Hello All,

I had a question in regards to Mame and outputs in general.

I remember that you could set Mame to flash a keyboard LED in relation to the output of tickets on a redemption game.  So it did get me to wonder if Mame could be set up to turn on/off those lights that are on the front panel of Lunar Lander.

Since I been playing Lunar Lander on MAME for so long AND it has been a long time since I SEEN an actual Lunar Lander cabinet, I completely forgot about the front panel lights.  (Mind you, the last time I saw a real LL in person when when I was about 10 years old).

Does Mame support these lights?  If so, how would one go about hooking them up.  Furthermore, if memory serves right, those lights lit up buttons for certain game plays.  That is another thing I don't know how to do in Mame (is to access those other game levels).

I am curious if anyone out there might have some additional information on this and in general how mame supports outputs.

Thank You,

Geo

Mame Hooker. I just setup a Q*Bert knocker using Mame outputs.

LEDBlinky supports mame outputs - and as I recall, Lunar Lander does work with them. There's also a mame outputs test app included so you can see which outputs are working for each game.

Wow!  I just took a look at that site, and I am surprised I never heard of this before.  It looks impressive.  One of the nice features is that it seems like you can interface it to a common parallel port and directly access 8 outputs.

This would definitely allow me to directly control the 4 Lunar Lander output lights using white LED lamps.   Then I could also use the other 4 outputs to control other features in Mame.

Hi Arzoo,

Ok, going this route though I would need the Led Wiz that GGG sells, correct?  I probably would go this route IF I decide to go with a commercial controller for my project.   Since this project is going to be based on a set of single player controls in a bar top style cabinet, I am thinking of just going with a standard game controller hack.   The motherboard I am intending to purchase for this project (A fan-less Intel Atom based ITX board) does have serial and parallel ports.  At least I could test out the function using MAME Hooker with the parallel port and a few LED's.

Thanx for the info guys, that was a "giant leap" in the right direction.

Correct. Also could use a controller from Ultimarc like the PacDrive.

Could you explain to me how to set it up?  I downloaded Mame Hooker, but the documentation is a bit 'vague' (at least the part I was reading).

Thanx,

Geo

Hello All,

Could someone assist me in setting Mame Hooker up?  I tried to look here for some info on setting it up but couldn't find much.

Thanx,
