CD Tray Holder Behind Coin Door (Specific Product Question)
« on: February 18, 2011, 01:41:37 pm »
Anyone used this product from NewEgg? I'm trying to ascertain whether or not it would work to hold a CD-Rom drive behind a 4 player coin door.

Thoughts?

Not sure exactly what that is supposed to do but a few small (or otherwise appropriately sized) cheap angle brackets is all you really need to mount a drive of any sort. Far cheaper than $20.

That's what I did to mount my CD ROM behind a cabinet door.

FWIW. YMMV. Quid pro quo. Doo whop.

Gryhnd,

Thanks for the tip. Agreed much cheaper and simpler.

BTW, the item arrived from NewEgg a few days ago. Turns out it is much smaller than I thought (thanks to NewEgg for listing NO specs on the item... tho my bad perhaps for ordering one in spite of that).  It appears designed to mount a 3.5" harddrive, and for my purpose this turns out to be a useful turn of events. I have seen other ideas for case-mounting harddrives such as suspending them with zip ties, etc. but I did not like any of the ones I've seen. I'm going to try using this *thing* so to speak to mount the HD.

Anyone have any ideas where modular pieces of PC cases can be purchased? I've tried cannibalizing a PC case in the past, but it just ends up an ugly solution for a MAME cab (re: PC hardware).

For example, I've tried to get Lian Li's power supply extender but no one seems to carry it anymore.  :(

You mean something like this part?

If you are just looking for drive cages and the likes try Freecycle and ask for dead or old pc for parts you would be suprised at what people give away.
Manuals and info on Dynamo cabs!

Too bad I didn't see your post before you bought it.  The media converter that newegg product is designed for is a small box that usually converts between various forms of ethernet, like fiber to cat 5 or AUI to BNC.

Something like this:

Yes, that link is it! Thanks. Hopefully this vendor has it (no one else I've tried seems to). Thanks for the FreeCycle suggestion. Great idea!  :)
