Sony PVM Monitors in SE Mass 1$ each
« on: February 17, 2011, 08:27:15 pm »
I just came across a great find on my local CL.  Thery are 15khz Sony 20" pvm 20m2mdv monitors for $1 each.  I went today and picked up 6 of them (just don't have room to keep more than that)

They have every input we need for our hobby.  I hooked them up to a jamma board thru RGB/BNC connection and they work perfect right outta the box, didn't need to mess with any settings.  Also hooked up a PS2 thru s-video and it worked perfect as well.  Super bright clean picture, no issues on the 3 different arcade boards I tried.
Here's a portion of the user manual with some specs:

Versatile analog signal inputs
PVM-M Series models are equipped with input
connectors for component (Y/R-Y/B-Y), RGB, Y/C and
composite signals for system flexibility. Furthermore,
for accurate reproduction, the component level can be
adjusted according to the input system.
Worldwide TV standards
The PVM-M Series accepts NTSC, PAL and SECAM
signals. NTSC4.43 can also be reproduced.
Component serial digital interface option
Inserting the optional serial digital interface kits
BKM-101C (video) and BKM-102 (audio) into a monitor
allows the PVM-M Series to accept SMPTE 259M
component serial digital signals.
Caption vision (closed caption) decoder is
built-in
External sync
The monitor can accept external sync signal for
synchronization with other equipment. The external
sync can be set so that it will automatically switch
according to the input selected.

Anyway, they have about 100 of these, and looking to get rid of them so only asking $1 a piece! They were used in the medical field and are pretty clean.  I decased 1 and there was zero dust inside! lol

They are in a warehouse in FallRiver, Ma.  PM me and I will give you the contact info if your interested.  I told the guy I thought  there might be some other people in our area who might be interested, and he just wants them out of the way.

I'd post a link to the CL ad, but some idiots keep flagging his ads and he has to keep reposting, so the link changes.

Pm's replied.

I'm not interested in getting into the shipping thing, I would think shipping would be fairly expensive & my wife is even less interested in having more than I just picked up laying around  :P.  Maybe someone else in the area would be interested in doing that.

Just a little update to the people that got ahold of me about getting these...

I found that the signal from an arcade board was alittle too high on the RGB.  I installed a 1k ohm resistor into each of the RGB lines (no need to add one to the sync lines)

This brought down the contrast and brightness into the mid-range area of the monitors adjustment pots, and you can just fine tune to your tastes from there.

I've replaced both monitors in my dual sitdown Final Lap cabinet with these.  Also hooked up 2 xbox to them thru s-video for some head to head Forza or Outrun 2.

Well that's cool. I was in F.R. the other day, and spent yesterday in New Bedford. Where are you out of?

Too bad I don't have a need for any monitors right now. I've got a huge 22" I'm keeping around as a backup should one of my cabs CRTs ever go belly up.

Edit: never mind, just saw your profile. You're just up the road from me.

Yeah this was a really good deal.  A nice bright CGA res monitor, with no burn in, and multiple inputs!  The only downside I can see to these is it's a Trinitron tube, so I guess it will look alittle weird if you rotate these to vertical  ( What I've read anyway)
