U360 Axis flip?
« on: February 13, 2011, 04:48:11 am »
Forgive me if this problem is easy to solve, but I have just switched out some old Sanwa JLF's for a pair of Ultrastik 360's, and would love some clarification. The way my control panel sits, its not currently possible to plug in the mini USB adapter into the joystick(s), and close the control panel back. Is there any chance, if I flipped the stick around to where the current "down" is flipped to "up", that the axises can be re-flipped via firmware/software/whatever? As in, physically moving the joystick in a 180 degree where the current down is now up, but return these directions again via software/firmware.

If that's not possible, I believe buying some form of an angled mini usb connector should work, too, but obviously would prefer to fix the problem via software/firmware, if possible.

I have never tried it but possibly if you use the joystick in output mode going to another keyboard encoder it possibly could work.
But there is no way via firmware or Ultramap software to do what you are asking that I'm aware of.

You could just re-map your controls in each emulator. You probably do for the buttons, so having to set your sticks is only a little extra. Of course, it comes to mind that since you can program the sticks, you could approach it at the map level. Change all of the maps to be 'rotated'.

All except Analog, I don't think you can remap it that way

I found on the in-tar-nets some left-angled mini USB extensions, and they are both working properly (those things are REALLY rare, might I add). I tried the remap thing, too, but analog (the whole reason I bought the controllers) wouldn't remap. Having fun with them now, though. Food Fight and Sinistar are worth the price of admission, to me.

Glad you got it working!

wanna post where you found the usb extenstions?

and just so you know you can "reverse" the analog axis' in mame games that use analog controls, might be neat to try

I'm glad you got it figured out but for anyone else who has a similar problem (I did), you can very easily just unscrew and rotate the pcb. I did it with mine (although i just rotated 90 degrees) and it works perfectly. Thanks to Ginsu Victim for suggesting that to me when I made a very similar thread last year.
