Looking To Start a Juke....
« on: February 12, 2011, 04:05:58 am »
ive got a couple old PC's laying around and since ive got 2 new PC's and these are taking up dust, i want to turn at least one of them into a Juke...since i have a very large collection of CDs and ever growing collection of LP's (yes the wax frisby's)...

old pc stats:

Pent D 925 3.0ghz Dual Core
2gb DDR3
250gb HD
5.1 onboard sound card
(one of the pc's has a 1gb DDR3 PCI-E vid card)
(one of the pc's has a Cooler Master 700W)

im looking to pull the guts out of their mid towers, mount them up in either a wall mount or free standing unit (looking at finding old beat up radio for a conversion but theyre hard to come by here) to provide better airflow... also upgrading the HDD to a pair of 1TB drives, a DVD+RW drive for back up purposes....

i know prob overkill..... lol

the other will eventually be turned into a MAME style arcade, maybe... not sure yet, only if i decide to build a multi MK-Mame box...
......

so this is my parts list so far...

1: Build Box/Convert Old Style Radio
2: Aquire Touch Screen
3: Software
4: Lights/Fans/Artwork

.......

Any suggestions? places to look for Juke Box related loot... any where to find a general blue print guide?

also where would i find some of the cool polshing lighting effects that are the outside of the old style jukes...

........

Thanks..

Welcome aboard. there's tons of threads here, Search for RATROD for one very nice juke build.

Mountain's Jukebox is a very popular style to build also if you want to go totally scratch built.

Personally, I want to find a non-functional (and non-restorable) old standing cabinet radio and retrofit it into a juke.

Lots of options though.

If you want to try something that doesn't require a lot of woodworking, North Coast Arcades, formerly Mameroom, sells a wall mounted jukebox kit, that you just put together like a bookshelf. I'm ordering one from them myself, for a project I'm building for a friend. www.maeroom.com

For a touchscreen, I would look on Ebay. There are often a lot of good deals there. Lately there have been a number of people selling used open frame touchscreens, pulled from photo kiosks and such, that are perfect for this kind of project.

Pushbuttons, lights, and misc, you want Happ Controls. www.happcontrols.com

Don't forget an I-Pac. www.ultimarc.com

As for software, there is a very comprehensive list on the wiki. http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/Jukebox_Software Personally, I am partial to the SKG Jukebox, but that's probably just because I wrote it. Good luck.

Blush.

And still in a holding pattern. Been too frickin' cold to be in the unheated shop.

The Rat Rod link is in my signature below...

I love the Rat Rod AND Mountain's Jukes. I'm trying to plan out a juke to compliment my 'almost-done' arcade cab. I was thinking wall mounted, but part of me would like to do a floor length one as well. Decisions, decisions.

thanks for the links and info on the touchscreens...

it will be 100% touch screen, only physical switches will be a power switch for the power..

sound will be handled by a Phillips 2.1 system like i have on my desktop or a Dell Soundbar.... not sure which yet...

i was looking into those cab's from North Coast, however has a few design flaws (or atlease flaws to me) that i dont need or would want...

everything has been put on hold, my dads sick and on his death bed, so im pretty much not even thinking about the build at this point...

I can relate. Had the same issues with my father in law. You have my best wishes through these tough times.
