Side art for my cabinet
« on: August 19, 2003, 09:21:47 pm »
Im about to finish the restoration/conversion of a Mat Mania game.
If you could contribute to the side art, it would be greatly apperciated.

Here is a picture of the side:

I would not like an ordinary side though, I have stange specifications. ::)

First, I want the design to be a one or more thin continuous lines, with no sharp bends, using only two colors.

Also, the total line length cannot be more than 10 feet in length. (the dimentions are 69" by 31" to give you an idea of what that is)

??? ??? ???If you understood all this, great.  If not, here is an example of what I mean:

I know this is strange, but when I am finished, it will be very new and different.

Thanks! ;D

Yes, that is what I want.
I suppose I should devulge my secret at this point...

These strange lines will be electroluminescent glow wire.
The lines will glow like neon, and pulse with the sound of the game.

Here is another example:

Well all politics aside - what are you even asking for? Looks like you know where the glow wire would go anyway...

That said..it does bear a strong resemblance to some questionable graphics (some just are not acceptable).

Hmmm.... now that I look again, it does remind me of a questionable political insignia :-\

That image was created as an example of what I need though, not what I have already decided on. (I'm not too good at creating original artwork)

What I need is for someone to create a design while keeping in mind the limits of the glow wire. (thin lines, two colors, less than 10 feet in length, and no sharp angles)

your putting lights on the side of your cab right..? You should get a backlit sideart piece. like a marquee and stick the lights behind it. that would look sweet

Since your cab looks like Tempest anyway, shape the wire like the vectorgraphics of the game.  That would look pretty cool.
Blue and yellow glowire, can you hook them up so that sections flash at different frequencies or in some order?

Next I'll be on fries, and that's when the big money starts rolling in.

Now that I've actually seen a tempest cab, I'm pretty sure thats what it was originally.

I got it with black sides, but when I sanded it off, I noticed it had sideart just like the picture underneath.
Too bad I wasn't able to restore it. :'(

Putting a Tempest side art on it would be great, but I have no idea how I would do it. (I don't want to pay $200 for kinkos to print it)

The glow wire kit I was thinking about getting has two different colored 10' wires, with a single sound activated inverter.
A seperate sound activated inverter is $8 (this would be needed to get them to pulse seperately)

I once made a Tron panel with vector type graphics on it

Is that what you were thinking?

I suggest going all the way around the sides about an inch from them, and then a set of stripes going across the sides that line up with the control panel. That is pretty much what automotive pinstriping guys do, so it should look good on your game too.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

I didn't know it was a Tempest cab either.  I meant the Tempest graphics from the game itself.  That is what I thought of from your original question and it just so happened that you had a Tempest cab....strange.  Anyway, here is an animated gif of what I mean.  Probably not feasible but fun to draw  :D

I love that tempest animated sideart gif! That would look awesome done real life in lights! I'd add some single led's too for the shots when your "player" is over the "enemy"...

So did you use EL for you side art?
How did you attach it?
I was thinking about doing a star wars themed side art highlighted with EL, so I'd love to know how it worked for you.
