USB extension
« on: January 15, 2011, 02:11:55 pm »
Does anyone know where or if I can get a USB adapter that i can mount to the cabinet and have an extension running into the back om my PC. This way I can just plug my wireless stick/other USB components on the outside of my cabinet?

I second that option.  I have put these in all of my cabinets and also used them for fighter sticks.  Quite handy and work well.  Just drill a hole where you want it and then 2 tiny screws hold it in place.  I bought mine from a site called Markertek but for some reason the site isn;t coming up now (are they gone?).  They were cheaper than LizardLick and I bought like 12 of them so shipping was good.  I'll keep an eye out for the site and post the link i it comes up.  If you need stuff from LizardLick though their prices are alright.

www.monoprice.com

I actually placed an order just today for 3 A male to A male USB cords, 3 keystone A female to A female adapters and a 3 slot keystone faceplate - all for about $12.

I'll mount under my virtual pin for use with keyboard, mouse and flash drive.

For a really cheap option, look for a USB extension cable at a local dollar store.  Cut a nice square hole in the panel, or a faceplate, and hot melt glue the receptacle end into it from the back.

If you are neat and careful about it, it should look good and work just fine.

This is what I did on Project Arcade 1. If I can hobble down there I'll take a picture on how it looks. On Project Arcade 2, I used the Neutrick's like the ones from Lizard Lick. USB extension cable is cheap, but getting the hole right was a bit trickier. Neutrick is simply to install but more expensive.

But those Nuetrik ports do look good!
