IPAC4 and Shifted Keys (Why?)
« on: January 14, 2011, 12:49:31 pm »
I am having a moment. My 4 player cab is working great! I have cleared all shifted keys as I don't see a reason to use them or perhaps I just don't understand how to use them and what benefits I would get out of this feature.

Can somebody give me a real world scenario of why I might want to investigate using shifted keys and how to do it?

Thanks,
Jason

shifted keys are useful for admin purposes.  for instance, being able to bring up the mame config menu (tab key) is very usefull for tweaking various settings....however having a dedicated button on your panel to do so is just asking for trouble.  but if you have a shifted key setup as TAB, then you can still easily get to it by holding down your designated shift key and pressing the associated button.  this keeps all of the admin type functions at your fingertips so you don't need to use a keyboard, but makes it so you don't need a dedicated button, and also helps keep people from messing up your config

I use shifted keys all the time!  I have a small button on the back of my cab that I use for my "shift" key.  Then with that held down all my other buttons have a new function.  For instance, one key presses Ctrl-Alt-Del so I do not have to plug in a keyboard to get to task manager....Very handy!
