Mame from your phone?
« on: January 06, 2011, 11:43:35 am »
Saw this:
The smartphone is Motorola's Atrix 4 from AT&T. It's being billed as the most powerful such device ever, with dual-core one-gigahertz processors, 16GB of internal storage, and expandability up to 48GB with a microSD card. It runs Android 2.2 Froyo, features Motorola's MOTOBLUR user interface, and, most interestingly, can be docked so a user can attach a screen, a full-sized keyboard, and ports for a make-your-own laptop.

A bartop cab that you plug your phone into?  Make it so....

I wouldn't like to think what kind of prescription lenses I would need after a few weeks playing on it.  :o
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

E2MAME for Symbian has been around for years.  It works with mame .v32 (or thereabouts) roms.
I had it on my 300mhz Nokia N95 8GB for a while.  Games from the early 80's work well.
Mid 80's games were too slow to play.

I also have a Zeemote JS1 bluetooth controller that works with the phone:

The thumbstick is pretty good, but ultimately the controller suffers from the same problem as a phone.
Everything is too close together & too small to play comfortably.
I wish they'd used a gamepad layout instead.
I've thought about hacking it and trying to put the guts into a wireless sega genesis controller, but I doubt I'll ever get around to it.

The phone has tv-out, so it isn't a bad setup if you're stuck in a hotel room with time to kill.

The Motorola at CES has a dual core 1ghz processor and will have the ability to plug into a monitor and keyboard and such.  That seems like more than enought firepower to run some version of MAME and other emulators.

Is there anyone working to port mame or other emulators to Andriod?
