Howdy all,
MAME runs stable 99.99% of the time, but there's a really specific action that will crash MAME on my system without fail.
If I go into Options - Interface Options, select "Allow game selection by custom key sequences", I can use the joystick to move around, but if I use any button, MAME will crash immediately. If I leave that option unchecked, MAME's as stable as bedrock. I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. I can replicate the problem on .140u2, .140u2 no-nag self-compiled, and .141. Haven't tried other versions. Running as administrator, compatibility mode, etc., doesn't change MAME's behavior at all. I'd really prefer to use Win 7 64-bit vs going to XP 64-bit as Win 7 is far, far easier to use and has much better driver support.
MAME non-UI can use this option without any problems.
I'd really like to be able to use custom keys in the MAME UI so that I don't have to whip out my keyboard and mouse every time I want to play a game. I think I could just re-map the IPAC P1SW1 to "enter" and re-map all games to that, but that way seems more like a kludge - I'd really like to fix it so that LCTRL (IPAC default) selects a game.
If anyone has any ideas for troubleshooting, I'm all ears. I tried looking at the crash dump files, but they were useless .txt and .xml files.
