Some CP suggestions from everyone
« on: August 15, 2003, 10:02:54 pm »
Hey all,
I'm in the process of planning out my control panel (still...seems to be an on-going process  :) ).  I am throwing around a couple of suggestions with the hopes that you guys can give me some feed-back/pointers on things I should do.  I have a Top Gunner cabinet...very similiar to this one:

My hopes are to have 2 8-way joysticks, with 6 buttons each...but also was considering adding a 4-way joystick with 2 buttons.  Given the size of the cabinet, is this a reasonable solution or would that control panel overwhelm the cabinet?  My other consideration was to pick up a T-Stick from Ultimarc and use that as my 8/4 way joystick.  My other question is how well and how much of a pain is it to switch between 4-way and 8-way?

Just thought I'd throw out some thoughts and see what everyone's ideas are.  Thanks  :)

I'd try the oscar restricter plates. They work fine for me. Although they are a bit tricky to have to change.

I bought the t-stick and love it--after you get the hang of it-- i don't even flip the control panel up anymore--just reach up through the coin door and give it a turn.  That way i have a dedicated 8 way on player 2 side and a 4/8 way on the other with the spinner in the middle slightly above the buttons.

Button choice depends on your "game" (i.e. the one you want to play so badly that you are getting into this insane hobby ;D) for me it was rygar and 1942 and pacman and ghost n goblins...and..errr i'll stop there.
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

HOLY MONKEY JIZZ BATMAN! That is MY old Top Gunner machine in the Klov picture! It has to be. stained unpainted Pac cabinet, no plexiglass on the panel, has the red ball Wico sticks I installed, missing the bezel stickers. I would have to have a higher res version of the picture to tell for sure, but I am pretty sure that is the one I sold six months ago.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

You know what's funny?  I bought my cabinet about 10 months ago, and it looks almost exactly like this one as well...Same burnt orange color cabinet (of course mine didn't have a control panel with it when I bought it).  The burnt orange color will definitely have to go  ;D.  Thanks for the input guys, I'll take a look at the restrictor plates as well.  Just trying to keep the Control Panel down to a reasonable size.  :) (not that I don't want every controller in the world mind you)  ;)
