If I don't have a case for my computer, how do I initially turn it on so that I can set my mobo to power on after power failure? It will be mounted on wood.

Attach a spst pushbutton across the 2 pins that are indicated on your motherboard where the regular front panel power on push button is attached. For a single use you just need the bare ends of the wire and you do not even need the spst switch but it may come in handy later.  You can use the button from another PC front panel or just use  a connector that fits such as a cdrom cable.  Push this button or touch the wires together to turn on the MB for the first time and set your bios.

I suggest you use a header with attached wires because it is a bit too tight where the pins usually are to use a wire jumper.   You could however use a 0.1 inch spaced jumper like used on the back of hard drives and cdroms to set the master slave if it fits.   Just remember to take it off later cuz holding the pins on may not have the effect you want.  A momentary contact is all that is needed.

All you really need to do to turn the comp on is figure out which two pins on that header are the power switch pins, and touch a screwdriver to them.

Sounds like something you don't wanna normally do, but it's the same as pushing the power button, and if you are gonna config bios to power on upon power restoration, it's all you need.

(if it were me I'd still end up with a little tiny button inside the case somewhere though, connected to those pins, cuz holding a screwdriver there for 4 seconds to force power off would be a pain)
