Arcade-switch idea!
« on: August 15, 2003, 06:09:25 pm »
I just had an idea for a new style of arcade button switch. It would be quiet (no clicking) and should last relatively long.

It's basically an update to the old style leaf-switch (more/less heavily changed). Heres an image I drew up:

I guess that'd work as long as your springs aren't metal.   ;)

Well obviously, but I thought it was a cool idea.

The springs don't have to be non conductive just make sure that the end of the leaves where they touch the spring are insulated.

yeah, no question it's a cool idea.
Then you wouldn't have to go in an re-bend the metal like Leafs, right?
but how long do springs last?

Just get some leaf switchs if you want.  I got 50 on ebay for 50c each a while ago.

The chances of making that button work well, cheaper, and better is pretty low.

I personally don't use leaf switches hardly at all.  I have some on a classic control panel (4way -> asteroid buttons -> qbert).  But other then that, I don't like the feel..  sad to say.

Well the point was to be better than a leaf-switch. A better design in a away.

I'm not sure how it is better? It seems like the same exact thing to me, except more complicated.

You do realize that they have leaf switch buttons that have springs in them, right? I have about a half dozen of them at least.
