I recently purchased a U-Trak and Optipac, which I was originally planning on connecting together.  I've decided I'm just going to connect the U-Trak through the USB interface, but I still want to use the Optipac to convert some of my pushbuttons into mouse buttons to help me move around windows.  My optipac has what I believe are left and right button interfaces, which I've connected the respective buttons to.  I put the other connectors to the GND interface on the optipac.  I know that the optipac works as the UTrak LED is working with the supplied ground and +5V.  I also see it in the device manager.

Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Make sure your OS and emulator support multiple mice and that the emulator has the option selected.

Thanks.

I hadn't tried the emulator yet, just Windows.  Shouldn't the buttons be available in Windows?  I know it aggregates the movement from all mouse devices for the pointer, but perhaps the buttons themselves don't behave in that manner...

Having the buttons work with Windows is a key desire, as I would like to be able to interact with my cabinet without the use of an external mouse.

I'll try disconnecting my main mouse when I get home, to see if there is any conflict happening on that level...

Since the buttons are mouse buttons they are only available if your mouse is available.  What version of windows are you running?

I'm running Windows 7.  That said, you just hit on a key question...can I use just the buttons without anything being detected for the trackball/spinner y1/y2 and x1/x2 inputs?  Or are you suggesting that it only activates the buttons when it detects something in those inputs?

Thanks for your thoughts.

I think for the buttons to work it has to detect a mouse.

Well, I managed to get the U-Trak hooked up through the Optipac, but the buttons still don't register.  I think I'm just supposed to connect the buttons to the left and right hookups, and then to any ground.  Would it matter if the buttons were getting their ground from another location than the optipac?  I ultimately have those going to my wiz40, which is working fine, so the buttons are getting ground.

According to this post last year, there should be 4 button inputs, 2 for each player, but I only see screws for left and right, which I assume means buttons.  There are a few contacts sticking up between the 2 players, but I have no idea what they are for...might that be what I'm supposed to be connecting to?

I pinged Andy last night and he confirmed that the issue was with the run of PCB I received.  He is kindly sending out a replacement today.
