WinXP Hibernate while running Mala?
« on: November 29, 2010, 07:45:25 am »
When done playing on my cab, I would like to put it into windows hibernate while still in Mala.   I have mapped an admin key combo to a shortcut that does this fine when in the windows desktop, but it does not work in mala, presumably the key combo is not getting to windows.  Is there another way to do this?

Within mala there is various Shutdown options (MaLa Exit) -Quit to windows, Quit MaLa or  (dropdown menu) , 'standby' is one of them

Hi, stanby not have the same function of hibernate...
If you want hibernate while still in Mala not is possible use the  Shutdown options present in MaLa (section GUI - Mala Exit) because the button hibernate not is present  :'(
The only way that i find for hibernate while still in Mala is:

Enable the hibernation on windows xp:

Now create two file:
1) Shortcuts for hibernate:
a) Right Click on your Desktop, go to New>>shortcut.
b) Copy the commands: rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll, SetSuspendState
c) Click next, rename the file hibernate and then finish

2) Create txt file in the same directory where is the shortcuts, write START C:\hibernate.lnk (if your shortcuts is on c:/), save and rename the file hibernate.bat (change the extension file)

Now go to mala option -  controller - external application, set the directory where is the file hibernate.bat file, choose one key and remap it with pushbutton on your cabinet
When you want quit and go to hibernation while running Mala push the buttons :)
(the better solution is use shift key for use it...)

Exist other way more easy for do it?

In the next relase of mala is possible add the hibernate function on dropmenu?  ;)

Thanks!

p.s. other way for use hibernation is here:
http://www.mygeekpal.com/542/how-to-enable-hibernate-feature-in-windows-xp/
but this way not is possible use while running Mala

What is the advantage of using 'hibernate' over 'standby'?

Hibernate and Standby are two different sleep options offered in Windows XP.

Hibernate saves an image (on hard disk) of your desktop, including all open windows and files (example Mala front end). Then it powers down your computer just as if you had turned it off. When you turn your computer on again, your windows and files are open just as you left them.
(You can turn off pc, all data there are in hard disk).

Standby is a more traditional sleep mode, as it reduces the power your computer uses to almost nothing. When you select Standby, the power to your screen, hard drive, and peripheral devices is cut. However, the power to the computer's memory (RAM) is maintained so your open files stay open.
(You cannot turn off pc, all data there are in ram).

Great loadman!

The hibernate function is wonderful, the startup is much faster than a traditional boot (10 second vs 20 second) and all programs/driver ecc... there are immediately ready using hibernation!
Example, you have front end mala active on your desktop, go to ibernation and your pc turn off.
The next time you turn on the pc your system show directly mala front end on your desktop quickly (10 second)...

Try it  ;)
