TV is in Black and White only
« on: November 28, 2010, 03:57:18 pm »
I bought this video card below:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370455671141&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT#ht_1572wt_1139

I have it connected via S-video lead to a regular old 21 inch CRT TV.  It works fine except that its only showing up in Black and white. This happened to me in my last cab but I can't remember how I fixed it.

The tv works perfect except it is only in Black/white.  Its a PAL TV and the s-video lead is plugged into one of those scart connectors thingys with the video phono jacks on the back (connected to yellow)

Thanks for any help!

Bad cable, probably.  I bet one of the pins has broken off.

setthe tv to S-video input,

problem is standard scart is set up for RGB and composite input, S-video is put in using the composite pins and another pair... so if you feed S-video to a composite input, it only gets the luma part of the signal, which gives you black and white.

I think thats exactly what it is! I spoke to a guy who repairs TV's also and he said the TV I have probably has no S-video capabilities. I was using the scart adapter. No harm as I have a newish TV also.

Thanks for help.

IMO you should forget the s-video connection and go for scart if you have it available.

The image quality is amazing, crispy and detailed.

You can connect the VGA output from your graphics card directly to your TV Scart socket via a VGA to Scart cable.

This is the best signal/image you'll ever get, RGB.

You'll need to use a program such as soft 15 kHz or power strip, so your graph card can output 15 kHz that is suitable for your TV.
