Tips for my first juke?
« on: November 28, 2010, 01:31:55 am »
getting ready to start my juke build. I've been nosing around looking at some great ideas, but what I could really use are some general tips. I have a couple of design ideas that I'm playing around with at this point.

My biggest concern is the touchscreen. What brand particularly. Are they all pretty much just plug and play? Any input on the touchscreen side of things would be greatly appreciated?

Elo touchscreens are probably the most common.  They come in bare form or in a monitor type case.   The bare form is easiest to work with as you do not have to decase it and the bare screens are setup for kiosks etc which you juke really is.  The older elo are serial port connected for the touchscreen but most of the newer ones are USB.  Don't spend too much on the touchscreen as there always seem to be deals around.

Thanks Bob for the info. The ones i've been looking at are right around $100, some a little less. Is it necessary to have the touchscreen software or is that stuff easy enough to get online somewhere, if it's even needed?

I was also wondering about amplification.....can i run a splitter for RCA's off the speaker "out" from my computer and go into a Pioneer receiver that i have sitting around collecting dust and use that? If not, is there a better way. I don't want to go with some weird car amplifier application.

i used digital optical out from my computer to reciever , havent seen yoru plans so cant comment to much but with digital optical i ran about 8m to my reciever from computer with good sound , maybe you could put a digital optical in on it and pick up a reciever with optical out they are pretty cheap , remember the better amp the better sound from digital music , im looking at now buying a new marantz amp 1300 but poker is paying  ;D

also the better speakers are important , no good having a juke that sounds crap

what software are you going to use

i looked at as many jukes and buttons before i made mine , mines out to paint right now cant wait till i get it back

i also used a griffen powermate volume control , look them up as it has six mappable options and can be used for next song etc as well soving on buttons

I was thinking of using touchtrax or albumplayer. They both look like they are super user friendly as I am not even close to being a "techy". I think I am just going to do a stand alone touchscreen and have it be a wall mount (receiver, computer, etc; all hidden) Trying now to get up the courage to drop up to a $100 on the touchscreen now.

I am pretty good at poker as well, however it isn't paying for mine so I have to tread lightly around the wife!  :)

She'll crap wood nickels until it's finished. I love it when she hates that I start another project! LOL ......She don't know yet that i'll be building another poker table for a friend soon too! :dunno

I also play under full tilt. Unfortunately the state i live in has finally passed a law making online poker play for real cash illegal and i am unable to play for cash anymore. So, now when i do get on it's only for play chips. oh well, they can't do a damn thing about my home games. There's a few bucks to be made there at least. Too cheap to give my money to the indians down at the casino so I have to just settle for the cash games at home.

Anyway, I haven't seen your juke? Is there a thread with pics?? I'd like to check out your build if so!

NEVERMIND!!! I'm a retard! I saw the thread.....looks good so far, paint will definately do it justice!

Looking at a touchscreen right now for $85 shipped. Just trying to get up the courage to pull the trigger.

I pulled the trigger!!!! His asking price was $84 o.b.o.

I offered him $50 and he accepted. This is the one i got. take a look, and if you don't mind, let me know what you think? Also, let me know if you think i have to do anything to it in order for it to work? I'd appreciate your feedback...

Looks like a deal.   Make sure the computer you are using has a serial port for the touchscreen.  Some of the newer ones have dropped the serial port.
