60 in 1 with trackball problem
« on: November 21, 2010, 03:01:29 pm »
I did quite a bit of searching on this topic and i see it is a common problem, but i am having a hard time finding the solution.  I have a "b" quality 60 in 1 icade board. I have a new Imperial trackball, and i have the connector to connect the trackball directly to the connector on the board.  However, it will not work.  I get no response at all from the trackball.  All else works fine.  Is there something i need to do to the baord/wiring/etc to make this work?

I thought 60-1 topics were taboo on this board?  ::)
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

In the software dip switch setup there is a setting to switch the direction and clock signals.  You might need to set this switch to match your trackball.   There is also a software setting to switch X and Y if you need to when it is working.

I think that posting links to where the boards are sold is illegal but not discussing them.

Is your cab setting set to Upright 1 player on the software dip switch?   Are you using the player 2 inputs or a trackball harness to 60 in 1 connector?

I have it set up as 1 joystick, upright cabinet.  i have set up many  of these 60 in 1 boards over the years, but this is the first trackball.  I am using a direct wire to the board from the joystick.  I dont know how to wire to the player 2 controls.  If i did cut the harness and wire direct to player 2, would i still tell the board that i am using 1 joystick, upright?  How does the board know the trackball is being used.  i bought the direct wire because i thought it would be plug and play.

Shouldn't be a wiring problem if you have the harness.  When wiring thru the player 2 controls it uses the joystick inputs as shown on the jamma harness picture in the icade manual.   I think it knows to use the player 2 controls and that is why you have to set the cab as a single player upright to wire there.

that is what i thought, i dont think there is a wiring issue at all, wondering if there is something i have forgotten, missed, etc.

Depends on your 60 in 1 card.  Have seen postings of a software problem with some of the cards and the only solution was a new card or new rom.  If it is a current card it should not have that problem as it was several years ago that most of the postings re that problem were dated.

From another forum.  How to determine if you have the defective trackball software.

Mike,
It is a problem with your boards software. When the 60-in-1 Multicade
board was first released, everything worked fine but there was a few
minor bugs in it. So the 60-in-1 builder I suppose tried to fix those
bugs and added another feature into the Setup Menu. However I suppose
they did not actually test the trackball function afterwards. They did
not even update the software version so these two different versions
have the same identifier on the last page of the Setup Menu.

* If you have the defective software, your Setup Menu with have a new
feature on DIPSW2 - 8 which lets you choose if you want to trackball
to work on the 'Normal' games or 'ALL' games.
* If you do not see this feature then you have the original VER300
released software and your trackball will work!

Have you ever had the trackball working?    My guess since your board works OK but not the TB would be the TB.  Can you try the trackball on anything that you currently have?

I ended up just wiring the trackball to the P2 input.  It worked fine that way, but the direct wire no response.
