Using my arcade's joystick on my PS3.
« on: November 16, 2010, 08:46:58 am »
Hi,

My cabinet is finally working for MAME. However, I would like to use it on my PS3 for SSF4 and MvC3.

My joysticks are connected to an IPAC2 but I can remove the plastic connector so I could connect it to something else.

My question is, can I "hack" a PS (or PS2) controller and connect it to the PS3 using a PS-to-USB connector?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Can I ask some questions about it?

1- Does one board support 2 joysticks?
2- Will the PS3 recognize it? IIRC, there was a firmware update that was supposed to cancel all "custom" controller.

1) No, you would need 2 boards for 2 sets of controls.
2) Don't know.  You could probably check over at the shoryuken forums to find out.

damn, that's a good point about the new update. I forgot about that. I have a cthulhu, but I don't ever bother to use it on my PS3. I did try it a couple times though when I first got it. It worked great then. If I can get the motivation I'll test it out and let you know.

I'm putting together a second candy style cab at the moment, pretty much just to play MvsC3!  i have a cthulhu board and a hacked ps1 controller. the cthulhu is a fantastic board, and so easy to set up if soldering is not for you.

was working fine today with the current ps3 update.  Hacking a pad is a fair bit cheaper though. either way you just need a usb switcher, or some terminal blocks to wire your controls up to two systems (ps3 & pc/mame)
