Cheapest way to fill a cab ever?

Does anyone have the Namco one? Is it easily hackable? If it is, then that, a $20 used 19" TV, and a cast off cabinet might make the cheapest multicab ever!

What is the nintendo one, and where do you get it?

Even still, isn't it battery operated? I suppose you could hack it to run off an AC adapter pretty easily. Plus I'm guessing the joystick is probably only so/so and it also require replacing... Even then, though, it should be pretty cheap.

can't remember the actual name of it, but it came with 2 controlers which linked together and a light gun (looked like a little ppk).  They were selling them at the local Fleas Market.  I'll try and go up there this weekend and see if I can find them again.... Had like 50-100 games....

Ha! I've got one of those!!! (Nintendo Game Thingy)...
I picked it up at a local flea market for $30.
It blabs about coming with 163 games (or close to that), but it's the same issue with MAME having 3,900 games... Half (or more) of them are just different version releases. But it does have a good 50+ different games. Mario 1,2,3, ExciteBike, Contra, Galaga, Duck Hunt, and a bunch of others.

It's kinda wierd & I'm not sure how exactly it works, but all that is required to play the games is to plug the main controller into the DC adapter (or batteries) and the A/V jacks in your TV.  The main controller is shaped like an N64 controller (but only the 8-way and AB buttons actually work. The second player controller is shaped like a Genesis controller (Still only the 8-way & AB buttons functional) and it includes a light gun as well...

I was going to hack mine into a tabletop arcade with a 13" TV, but my wife wouldn't have it... She loves sitting on the living room floor with the controller plugged into our main TV.  I think I'll go ahead & go back to that flea market & try and get a few more of them (if I can find them again...). But if I am able to find them, I'd be happy to distribute a few of them if any one would be interested. (But let me see if I still have a source of them first)

They would be perfect to hook up to a 4" LCD screen for the build your own mini competition...  It even allows you to run it off batteries and it has a slot for original Nintendo carts. (I don't have any carts at the moment, so I haven't tested out the slot).

hehe... Ideas, Ideas, Ideas....

I'll try & get some pics of this thing up tonight.

Sounds incredibly ghetto... This is a real product? Or is it like a mass-produced Nintendo hack job?

I definitely want to see a review of the JaksTV games.  very cool idea.

Yup, Yup...
Trader's Village is a great place for JUNK. and a few neat things too.
I hadn't seen these at Electronics Discount yet... I'll have to look around again.

And I'm planning on getting a 21" PC monitor there for my cabinet too.
(How well do those PC driving wheels work??? I'm kinda wanting one now too)

AlanS17,
Yes, it is incredibley ghetto...
We call it "That little mexican game thing" around my house. I believe the packaging was all in Spanish (hence the "mexican" slur.

Now THAT looks really ghetto... It kind of matches the description of the Mexitendo system described above. It does have some good games listed, though, doesn't it? The disclaimer kinda freaks me out, though:

"Please note that some games are slightly different and may have substitute games.  We do not guarantee a specific game will be included."

First, how can they NOT know what games it has? Second, how are these games different? I want a guaranteed original experience!

dude!  somebody get it and see if that gun can support 2 guns in Area 51!!!!! :D

actually if itplays most of those games, and can support some light gun games it may be a nice mame-cab-for-a-friend thing.  You know, for all those friends that want a mame cab, but don't want all the fuss.

tmasman is this the one you have?  doesn't look like the one I've seen

Well it wouldn't be true arcade. It would be more like a console in a cab. No flipping in quarters and stuff. It would feel more like a dedicated Nintendo than an arcade machine.

Even still, for that many games it's hard to pass on.

Here are the pics of mine...
It's about as ghetto as the link above, but mine has Nintendo games instead of Arcade...
[Click on pics for close up]

By the way... The light gun is the same inards as the original Nintendo one... So... Sorry, still no easy light gun fix for the PC.

And that Thumb joystick on the "N64" controller is just a stiff plastic piece put there for looks...

With all of it's ghetto-ness, it's still got about 50+ FULL original Nintendo games that are fun as anything to play!

yeah, just kidding about the area 51 thing. *gulp* tough crowd

seriously.  Do you think some quick soldering and some old joysticks and buttons could convert the arcade-thingee into something someone could get a decent fix of galaga and donkey kong?  I think it would be a neat option for a friend of mine I might try it out.

That is exactly what I plan on doing!
I want to build a mini (13 TV, 4ft cabinet, w/ office chair in front of it).

It should be a blast. You could even wire up an external port for the 2 player & gun games. (At least that's what I was thinking).

Thanks for the tips and links (gawd this board rocks sometimes for stuff like this) ;D  I was explaining it to the missus last night over some beers in the dark and she was thinking it would be great to have--Mame--its money well spent  ;)

Although--question--can 2 light guns be hooked up to this thing or do any of the games even support 2 player action?

Thanks again!

They only work with 1 gun. (Just like the original NES)...
There are 2 player games (Contra, Super Mario Bros, etc...).
The gun games (The gun plugs in where the P2 controller normally does) include
Duck Hunt, a couple of Western shoot-out games, and a few others with the same feel to them.
