Also the zombies being a 2010 velicoraptor seems to have stopped as well.  They are now at the appropraite level of stupid.

The episode was written by Kirkman, which is why the zeds in that episode were more book-appropriate.

I've really been liking the show, and it was announced that it was already picked up for season 2.  And even more interesting is that Frank Darabont fired the entire writing staff and is not replacing them.

Any thoughts on what the doctor whispered into his ear at the end?

I hope it's not the usually zombie revelations like it was an accident with a biological weapon and we didn't want to be the only ones so we infected the rest of the world, or everyone is infected so as soon as someone’s immune system gets weak from a common cold they will get the fever.

I'm hoping it's the opposite of my first suggestion.  Instead of the brain decaying and the zombies get dumber, the brain scan of the other 18 patients revealed that after the brain starts up again it starts to rebuild itself and it keeps getting stronger, which is why he shoots his wife so quickly after she becomes one.  Right now the zombies are like 2 month olds, in two years they'll be as smart as 2 year olds, in 20 years...

This way they can't just live in a prison focused on personal growth and not worry about the walking dead.

I don't care about character development I want to see zombie attacks.

Perhaps that the blood test showed the wife was pregnant, but who is the father? duh-duh-DUH!
I was actually unaware that was the season finale. It felt like a setup episode for some action in the next episode. Kinda stinky.

Nuts, TOC is right.

Since the CDC wasn't in the comics I was too busy(hopeful) thinking of a new twist to the story line that I didn't make the connection.

The first time they alluded to sex I was wondering what they would do to look out for someone who got pregnant and who could help deliver a baby. I ruin tons of movies for my wife by trying to point out crap like that.  :lol

Shane needs to die. Bastard. He KNEW he wasnt dead! God. And the wife too. Her husband is dead for a month and she is already screwing around with Shane in the damn forest?!?!  :dizzy:

If the wife had a little more meat on her bones, she would be kinda cute.

Shane needs to die. Bastard. He KNEW he wasnt dead!

Don't police officers receive at least basic CPR training which includes "Dude has a heart beat" kind of thing?

The heart monitor was blipping away. The power goes out. Then Shane does what? Sticks his head on the Rick's chest to listen for a heart beat not three seconds after the monitor goes out?

I wonder if everyone knows that is a heart monitor and not a machine that is keeping him alive.

Yes, everyone with half a brain knew this.  (50% of the population, unfortuantely)   That flashback wasn't intended to make Shane look more human, it was intended to show that he's both dumb as a box of rocks (he could have took rick with him!) and a coward that panics under pressure.

At least I HOPE that was the intention, because if it wasn't that was some horrible writing there.  Thus far the series is going completely off from the comic so I can withdraw my comments about character developement, but the writing seems to be hit and miss.  It's like for every brilliant idea they follow it up with a colossal dose of stupidity to cancel it out.

Example:  Going to the CDC.  Brilliant!  They NEVER had a sensible destination to go to in the comics, so this was a nice suprise.  And then they ruin it by having everyone inside dead, not by an overthrown facility or outbreak, but by a rash of suicides??  Nah these are scientists man, and hardcore science guys work at that deep in the cdc.  They wouldn't give up, they'd keep on working till the end.  That and you know, they are frikkin scientists, so they could go get fuel outside or bypass the computer warnings.  Also burning an entire facility just because it ran out of fuel is just plain dumb.  "Yeah, with have completely sealed off doors to each lab and a computer that's magically able to detect a leak of any kind.  No need to just destroy the labs safely... let's just blow the whole place up in a gaint fireball!"

This is one of those shows I'll watch and complain about it at the same time.  Then again, by the time the next season is up I might not be interested anymore.  :(

I was going to say shane isn't really that dumb but that got me to thinking about the fishing/frogging scene back at camp. Fishing and frogging isn't that tough. My 3 year old can catch frogs. Fishing just takes patience. Yet shane comes up with this dumb idea to scare frogs into the net?

So yeah, I say he's dumb. To be fair though how would anyone act with the militaryshooting people at one end of a hallway and geeks coming the other way.

Me? I would've gone out the window.

Yes, Im with you there, it was there to show what really happened, and to definetly show that Shane is a dumb ass, cant be trusted, and is also in fact, a coward. See, I havent read the comic, so I dont know anything, but I also have nothing to compare it to, except all the other zombie flicks. I thought the CDC was a good idea, but youre right, the whole self destruct sequence etc...I dunno, I got it when I was watching it, but now that I analyze it a little more, its a little ridiculous. Suicide? Its not like its airborne or anything, if THAT was the case, I would have popped myself too cause damn, there is no way around that...

Put a hardcore scientist in a building with a 24 hour time bomb and see if he'll spend that time working on a cure for Aids or looking for the nearest door.  Some might try and keep working, for example the scientist that was left did.

Although I was kind of hoping the secret he whispered was some kind of new plot twist that was so shocking about the virus that it caused the scientists to kill themselves, but in the end it looks like the CDC episode was a way for the show to get back to the comic.

The wife is pregnant and they are back on the road to see how bad humanity becomes without law and order.

Well that's kind of my point.  Scientists seek solutions to problems, they don't act irrationally.  If you are around a bomb the practical solution is to get away.  If you are safe and secure in a zombie proof building during the z-apocalypse and are smart enough to where you might actually be able to do something about it, you don't kill yourself, you stay in the f-n building!

I seem to recall that after the collapse of the Nazi regime, a lot of upper rank soldiers killed themselves because they realized they would be tried for their war crimes. I don't recall if any scientists did. I believe many scientists were taken in by US and Russian agencies to further their research.

That's the closest RW event I can think of that might parallel what the CDC scientists faced in the show. Anyone recall if very many German scientists committed suicide after the war?

Well that's kind of my point. By the time the main characters got to the building the decontamination (self destruct) timer was at less than 24 hours. We don't know when the other scientists bailed or killed themselves all we know is the show started with the last guy left giving what he thought would be his last recording.

Many were issued fake ID's and escaped into South America, mainly Brazil. Google Odessa for more info.
There was a great special on the History channel about a guy tracking travel registries to find them.

I wonder if Shane and the wife were screwing around even BEFORE the zombie outbreak.  If you remember in the first episode, Shane is asking how things are going with Rick and his wife.  It sounds like even back then there was something amiss with Rick and his wife - could have been that she was screwing around with Shane.  That might explain why she was so quick to hop in bed with him later :dunno

Looked more to me like Shane had been working on her but not getting anywhere.  Then he takes advantage of how much he needs her after the zombie attack.  She really looked like she wasn't into it but knew she had no choice.  Her husband was dead anyway and her kid's only chance to stay alive was giving it up to Shane.

It makes reasonable sense to me that a lot of the scientists would kill themselves.  If anyone was in a position to understand whether or not the disease was curable it would be the scientists.  You have to consider that these are government employees.  They're not the best and brightest minds in their field.  That last scientist came right out and said it about himself.

I agree with this. I dont think she would be so passionate about Rick coming back if she was already screwing around with Shane before she thought he was dead. I think they were having issues, shane might have been throwing hints around, trying to hit it, then everything Chad said happened  :lol

Lastly saw the mini-series "Dead Set" last night, and it was amazing. I really wish The Jogging Deceased had the hopeless look Deceased Set did.

"The Jogging Deceased" may be my favorite thing on the internet ever. I picture zombies with headbands and ipods and sneakers.
