Control Panel (aircraft/spaceship type)
« on: November 08, 2010, 01:57:04 pm »
I built my arcade about 4 years ago and Im now itching on my new project idea. However, i have not been very lucky googling anything. I want to build a sit down flight style arcade but I want to add all the bells and whistle switches and panels. Toggle switch with the side protection do-hickies, toggle switch panels, etc... I have found plenty of places for toggle switch but nothing for the side protection do-hickies (that prevent you from accidentally flipping them), nor have i found anything "control panel"/switch panel related. I have also found plenty of switch guards, the ones you have to flip open first before switching the toggle. Ultimately, and if any of you have been on the ride, id like to get it to look something similar to the Mission Space/Mars ride at Epcot.

anyone know of any sites that deal in those type items???

something like this (see attachment). I found it on ebay, but it was just one and they want too much for it.

Couldn't you make a bunch of those by cutting & drilling some C-channel from Home Depot/Menards?

could you just get some u-bolts and recess the extra length below your panel?

Those are $6 and up.  Maybe cheaper at an auto or hardware store.

Im hoping to find the ones like I pictured in my original post but a little cheaper. The other "U" type connections require extra drilling for the backing screws where the single piece attaches with the toggle switch. Thanks for all the suggestions so far though, Im building up to a solution. I have still been unable to find the ones like that have on the ride; but, they are probably very expensive anyway.

Two of the links I posted were exactly like you pictured above. Is that not what you're looking for?

Not quite the same, but just as cool, and relatively affordable.

Yes, I will be using those as well, there are plenty of sites that sell that type. I need to find somewhere that has the single piece guard type.

The type you have pictured above are pricey. Here are a couple links where you can get them if that's what you want.

These two links are exactly as you have pictured in the first post in this thread. Is this what you're looking for?

It is, however, I'm hoping to find something a little cheaper. Those are $14 ea, which seems a bit pricey if you ask me. Plus Im looking for the control panel plates. the plates that the switch connect to that have labels on them, etc... I know what I find isnt going to come pre-labeled, or pre-drilled, or whatever. Bottom line, I have an idea and Im looking for the parts for it but Im not really sure where to look. That's why Im posting here where there is a ton of geek/build/part/widget knowledge.
