Real Bartops? Why does everyone MAME it?
« on: November 07, 2010, 07:59:07 pm »
I really want to make a bartop cab.
I just got an Arkanoid PCB and spinner with all the wiring harness on ebay, and I have a decent LCD monitor I found in my building.
I'm probably going to go with a bartop cab kit to make it easier on me.
But my questions are....why doesn't anyone use real PCBs in their bartops? I mean besides the obvious, " I want to use MAME to play every game possible"
Is it hard to connect the PCB and LCD monitor?

All you need is a video converter to feed an LCD from an arcade board.

build a cab for 1 game or build a cab for all spinner games......

I think thats the mentality, at least thats how I take it
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Some arcade PC boards have not lived a good life and can be troublesome.  Many bartop builders can troubleshoot the PC they are using but would not know where to start on a real game board.   Another factor is price, some boards cost as much as a PC or more.  Another limiting factor for a bartop is the physical size of some game boards.  They are much larger than a small pc motherboard.

A good alternative is to build your bartop with a jamma button and connector setup.  That way it can be used for a jamma game board or plugged into a PC via a jpac.
