Going Modular - CP critique
« on: November 04, 2010, 01:26:00 am »
So I've decided to go modular.

I feel the need to keep the 2 player Street Fighter layout with U360s and trackball for when casual friends come over but 90% of the cabinet use is for me and my friends with cabinets and the games that get played are: Donkey Kong (& Jr), Galaga, Pac-Man (&Ms), Dig Dug, Track & Field, Joust.

The main aim of the 2nd CP will be to have an accurate layout for DK and Track & Field.  I've had a go at the CP and would welcome any feedback.  The buttons are about as close to the edges as they will fit.  All admin buttons etc are in the pinball flipper position so not required.

2 overlay designs are shown.  I'm leaning toward the first one (less busy).

I thought I might be able to re-use the DK jump button for Player 2 Jump on TnF.  Not too sure if this will be comfortable. Will print out and try to see.  Any one else use a top TnF button as a primary button?

Since I am a sucker for modular panels, its always good to see others go that route. You can always add more panels later as well if you want to expand.

Nice, classic feeling overlays! Overall, I like the first as well. I really like that you have the "Track and Kong" logo on the first. It gives it a uniqueness. The only thing is that I kinda wish Mario made it somewhere on that overlay.

As far as re-using the DK jump for T&F jump, I was thinking more the other way around. Have you thought about using player 2 T&F run button for the DK jump? It might clear a little space and keep your hand from leaning on other buttons when playing DK.

Yeah, I thought about that but I think the DK controller might end up a bit low (I'm trying to keep button to joystick distance accurate).

I've attached another go.  I think I'll sleep on this one and probably change it all again tomorrow.
