Rowe/AMI R-82 Tone Arm Question
« on: October 27, 2010, 09:19:51 am »
Hi All,

We recently obtained a Rowe/AMI R-82 jukebox and it works great except for one niggling little thing that I can't seem to fathom. When you select a record from the A-side the record plays fine all the way except at the end when it's time for the tone arm to return to the home position. It does not. If you play the B-side the tone arm works properly. It's not the records because if I flip the record so that the B-side plays as the A, it works fine. It's only when the Aside is selected that the tone arm doesn't seem to want to return to the home position after the record is played. Hopefully that makes sense.

Any suggestions?

Hello,

Are you saying that the record will not reject when playing the A side?

If you lift the arm and move it towards the centre of the record can you hear the read switch operate, it should do because from what you say it rejects the B sides.

When you play the A side and press the reject button does it reject?

Have a look at the cam switches on the side of the mechanism, check that none of the uninsulated spade connections are touching each other (shorting out the switch).

The problem could be as above or could be a cam switch not ajusted correctly or there could be a problem with the Mechanism Control Unit.

If I move the needle manually over the A side toward the middle of the record it does engage but just a smidge beyond where most records end their track. Must some kind of adjustment somewhere?

Hello,

I would adjust the cut off switch, you will see the reed switch has two screws (4BA or 1\4 AF) that lock down the reed switch plate, slacken the screws and move the plate towards the tone arm to reject earlier or towards the center of the turntable to reject later.
