Old MK2 Cabinet into MAME: Question about glass!
« on: October 18, 2010, 12:43:49 pm »
I'm nearing the completion of my project and one of my next steps is to get the glass.  What can I use, and where can I buy the corner bracket that holds the glass in place at the bottom?

There is a groove cut out where the glass will rest, and it looks like there is a spot for a corner piece of plastic molding that would be attached and nailed in place underneath.

Ah, now I know what you mean.  Those are pretty standard on most Midway cabs.  I have 2 at home.

I found this (but not sure if it will fit your cab).

I need to go home and measure mine to see if it's the same size.  I may also have a spare.  I'll let you know.

Thanks, let me know if you need me to measure my cab (it's a MK2 cab).

I have this Gauntlet Legends control panel, and I think it has a bracket on it (I'm not using it at the moment).

It's not shown in the pic above, but you can see it in this pic:

Does the angle measure 1 1/4" and 1 1/4" by at least 25 1/4" long?

Rulkiewicz,

I have the same cabinet.  There are actually two brackets.  There is one that holds in the glass, this is the one that DeLuSioNal29 posted pictures of.  The glass slides up into the cabinet and then rests on the little ledge at the bottom.  The bracket is L shaped and has 3 holes in it.  The bracket goes at the bottom and covers over the glass to keep it in place.  I did not have this bracket when I got my cabinet and just got a piece of L shaped bracket the same size at Home Depot.  Cut it to length and dilled 3 holes in it to make it work with the existing holes.

The bracket that you show in the picture attaches to the control panel and is more like an S bracket.  It attaches to the underside of the control panel, goes up the back, then angles out to fit against the glass.  I do not know if this is meant to hold the glass in place as much as it is just to stop stuff from sliding down between the glass and the control panel.

I would recommend getting or making both and especially the L bracket one.  If you do not have it and you have the control panel lifted up then the glass is not really secured and only rests on a tiny ledge.

I am traveling for work so I can't take pictures this week, but if you need me to I can once I am at home.

The L bracket you got from Home Depot... was it plastic or metal?  Was it one long L bracket, or multiple smaller ones?

Cmoses is correct.  It's 2 brackets.  The L shaped one is on the cabinet itself and holds the glass in place.  One side of the L bracket screws in from underneath and the other side of the L bracket holds the glass against the wood.  The other brackets is kind of weird shaped and fits into the groove where the other L shaped bracket is.  It is attached to the control panel itself with 4 screws.  And it fits it when the control panel is closed.

I've done my homework with this and here are some pics (the bracket measures 25" by the way).

Pic 1 - Picture of the proprietary shaped bracket installed on my Gauntlet Legends control panel
Pic 2 - Picture of the same bracket installed on my X-men vs. Street Fighter cab (old MK2 Midway cab)
Pic 3 - Picture of the same bracket installed on my Gauntlet Legends CP (shown from the back)
Pic 4 - Picture of the L bracket that's installed on the machine itself
Pic 5 - Close up pic of the proprietary shaped bracket on my GL cp.  It starts as an L shape but then has an extra set of 2 more angles to make it fit when it's closed into the cab.
Pic 6 - It's a bit blurry (and dirty since I keep it in the garage) but you can see how the L shaped bracket is installed from underneath.

I've added these 2 extra ones to show the shape of the bracket on the control panel

Pic 8

All is all, I can see buying the L shaped one at home depot, but I don't think you can buy the one on the control panel there, since it's so unique.  But I can sell mine to you since I won't be needing it.  (I plan to sell the GL CP soon).  PM me for details.

The L bracket you got from Home Depot... was it plastic or metal?  Was it one long L bracket, or multiple smaller ones?

The bracket I got from Home Depot or maybe it was Lowes was a 1" metal L bracket.  They had a whole section with brackets of different lengths and widths.  They were all color coated at one end and in a large wood bin.  I think the one I got was longer than needed and I had to trim it down to the correct size and then drill the holes.
