Control Panel question / opinions

I know there seems to be a lot of CP topics right now, but I don't think I've seen this question (lately, anyway ).

I'm wondering if anyone knows what the dimensions are from the joystick to the reverse button on Defender / Stargate?  I want to have one of my control setups with this button.  I could move the reverse button closer to the joystick if I cut and modified the joystick mounting plate.  Then again, should I even try to match the original location when this is going to be a general MAME cab?  The joysticks will be longer than the original Defenders' and I don't want to have the reverse button interfere with other games.

Also, I have that one, lonely white button at the upper left as an ESC key.  Not sure I'll like that, but I do want to have the ESC button fairly obvious for friends and family.  Or is there another way around the "How do I quit the game / go back to the FE?" question for visitors?

Opinions welcome on the CP and cab design so far.  Design isn't finished and the colors are just placeholders for now.  I don't play fighters or Golden Tee, this is mostly for classics / golden age stuff.

Nobody has any info on Defender controls?  How about opinions?  I know we're all full of those!

Ah, thank you!  I don't know why that didn't come up when I searched.  My search-fu has been very weak lately.
