FS: S-Video Modded Genesis (US-NM-Albuquerque)
« on: October 13, 2010, 05:54:49 pm »
I just modded another Model 1 (VA6) Genesis, and I would like to offer you all the chance to purchase one of the two systems before I put it on eBay.

The first unit I have is a Model 1 HDG Non-TMSS unit with gold-plated audio and S-video connections, and a nickel-plated composite connection shown here:

http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=106432.0

Unit works and plays great. Also swapped out the LED with a brighter one.

Second unit is the Model 1 I mentioned above. I just finished putting it together last night, and didn't get a chance to snap pics yet, but I'll post them if there's interest. All connections are gold plated, but my drill slipped on the composite jack, and it's about 1/8" higher than the audio and s-video jacks. Not a huge mistake, but it's something I wanted to be up front about. Unit IS a VA6 (missing EXT connector, but has the space for it), and sounds fine. This Genesis is in EXCELLENT condition. I didn't swap out the LED on this one, due to it's pristine condition.

Make an offer on either one - once one sells, I'm keeping the other (for now).

This listing will be up for 7 days before I put one on eBay.

any chance of cash + another model 1 genesis (if not will you mod mine?)
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Only one I saw on eBay sold for 70.00, and to be honest, a lot of that goes into the parts from personal experience.

Honestly, after what it sold for, I lost money. So, unless someone is willing to pay me to do it, probably not.

$60.00 if you have a Genesis, more if you don't (obviously). That should cover everything but shipping. Also, there's a chance you have a VA7 motherboard, which means I could do the audio mod, but it'll sound like ass. There's a stickied thread at Sega-16.com showing all the different board revisions in their Genesis section.

Wow that is a LOOOONG thread!

I have a Model 2 and I cracked it open and I think it has the Sony Encoder.  Its in the upper left hand corner of the board right?

Where did you buy your svideo connector from?

Radio Shack:

Just be aware you need a female to male cable for that one - I can't find a gold plated jack that requires a standard male to male cable without being obscenely expensive.

Alternatively, you can get all your parts on the cheap (nickel plated) via digikey - just use the first link I posted in my original s-video thread to get a list of part numbers.

Also, your encoder chip should clearly read Sony CXA1145 or CXA1645

it does.  When I mod it I'll make a detailed thread on it so more people may be able to do this.
