There are some things I've laboured over for days which just didn't work out and they ended up in the bin, theres a sick kind of feeling that follows that along the lines of "I wasted all that time for nothing".  It's not wasted though, the skills stockpile grows.

That's the key for me, that's why we build this stuff isn't it?
Cheers Eric

Made the biggest mistake last week. I used laminate on my cab, and everything was in mint condition.  Then i screwed in some bars to hold the tv bazel and what do you think.....

i used screws that where just a tiny bit to long and went straight trought the laminate on the outside.  Man, i could almost cry when i found out.  Was all happy about getting the bazel almost done. BAM!

Well,  fortunatly it's realy minor and i was already planning on adding some sideare so that can cover it.  But still, seeing my beatifull laminate screwd up put me back in my place.

Also made some faults using the router a couple of time. Was my first time using a router so wasen't to carefull. slot-cutter upside down, slot not 100% in the center etc.

Learned alot and when i get this cab done, i'm gonna do another one with my new router skills!

Punch the holes full sized all the way through and put carriage bolts from the outside in. Looks clean and as intended. A lot of cabs that use large monitors, like Golden Tee, do this.

Everyone makes mistakes, the best builders just know how to hide them or make them look like they were planned.  ;D

I also spent 2 years planning it, and filled a whole notebook with sketches and measurements.

To me, this is way too much planning. I've built about 10 cabinets in a 2 year period.
Unfortunately I have neither the money nor health to build more than 1 cab, so I was going to have to get it right first try.  Add to that procrastination and an architect for a parent.  ;D

Edit: I thought of something else that helped reduce mistakes - reading through other people's trials on this forum.  Learning from the experiences of all the great people here saved me a lot of headaches.

and if you do finish, that cab is gonna be the source of so much fun you'll soon forget the frustrations!

You know, that's what keeps me up at nights and gets me motivated enough to finish my cab.

I make a ton of mistakes all the time.  It's all a learning experience though.  The frustrating part is when you try something 3 or 4 times and still can't get it right.  I also hate when I finish a cab and then live with it for a few months and decide I hate the ugly third CP and that there's no good reason for it.  Dammit.
