i-pac with sport games?
« on: August 11, 2003, 07:30:40 pm »
I know there is some tread on that but I can't find a answer.

How do you guys do to play recent games like NHL, Madden etc. with a I-pac? I mean is pretty rare we can use the 2P since they don't let us remap it and I dont want to use a regular joypad on my cabinet.

Can we hack a USB joypad only on the 2P and let the I-pac plug too? Do you think any conflict will happen between those two or the joypad will work only with the game who need it?

Thanks

The solution is not to support software developers who won't let you remap keys in their applications.  ;)

Eh, I wouldn't wire up player 2 to BOTH an I-Pac and a USB gamepad. One or the other. You could always wire player one with the I-Pac and player 2 with the gamepad hack.

But really, it all comes down to bad software.

So that's it, this is the only way to go? If there is no other option I will definitely go for it, since I want to play those games.

Thanks

yeah the other options is to use keyboard hacks instead of ipacs, sad as that is. dont get me wrong i use both, but for that, you will have to sacrafice.

You could use a keypad hack and the ipac and use an old-fashioned A/B printer switch box to switch between them... such a switch can switch 25 lines, which should be more than enough...

Keyboard hacks will not work for what the person is asking.

EA sports games (and others too) let you use the "keyboard" for only a single player.   Even if you add more physical keyboards, even USB ones, the game only sees one virtual "keyboard" consisting of all the physical keyboards combined.  The biggest problem on PCs is that you can't play two players unless you buy at least a gamepad or joystick; ie an ipac can't control 2 players, and you have to buy a gamepad to do so.

The reason EA does this is that it's so much easier to set player control by device rather than letting different keys control different players, especially with the 4 hundred console ports the games have.  Lazy.

You could use a keypad hack and the ipac ...

Do you mean "keyboard hack" or "gamepad hack"?  With a gamepad hack it could work, but keyboard would not.

So if I use a Sidewinder hack on the 2p would I be still able to play mame with it?

Is that possible to use both on the 2p with a A/B printer switch box?

I'm not smart enough to do this, but is there a reason that a key2joy can't be written?  like have Windows Think you have 4 joysticks and YOU configure them each with different buttons on the keyboard?  That would be SO awesome.  Wouldn't it?
