Rampage MAME screen resolution
« on: October 09, 2010, 03:24:49 pm »
I am having issues with trying to get the game "Rampage" to work in MAME.  I have tried all of the screen resolutions and they just zoom in so close that the game is unplayable.  With leaving it on auto, the game is tiny and only takes up a fraction of the monitor.  Now, I have had this working in the past, but since my MAME computer died and now I am replacing it, I don't know what the proper settings should be.  Is there something to do with hardware stretching?   I am using an arcadeVGA, so I thought I should be able to find the appropriate resolution.  Please help, my kids LOVE this game.  Thanks!

Rampage is one of those weird interlaced resolutions.  Try using 640x480 (interlaced if you are using an arcade monitor that won't go that high).

Thanks for the advice.  I tried 640X480 and for some reason, Rampage appears at the top of the screen and the top part is actually cut off by the top of the screen.  At 640X480, it is still very small and a majority of the screen is still black and unused.  Is there any way to change the stretching or any other variables to try and get it to work?  I had this working perfectly with my last setup on the exact same monitor so it should be possible.  The only difference is that I have a new updated version of MAME and the arcadeVGA is a PCIE version as opposed to the AGP version.  Thanks again for the suggestion.

It would help to know what options you are using.  And maybe to see some pictures.

By default, MAME should be streching the image.  You have to turn -nohwstretch on to get it to NOT stretch.  At least in versions I'm familiar with.

I got it to work by checking "crop artwork".  Not terribly intuitive since there was no artwork that I was aware of.  But even though it makes little sense to me, it did fix it and 640X480 works like a charm with that selected.  Thanks for taking the time guys to help me out!  Dean
