Forum question
« on: October 04, 2010, 12:59:58 pm »
I've noticed a problem with the forum lately.  When I open a topic marked as containing new content and then go back to the list of topics, if the next topic in the list was marked as having new content before entering the first topic, it loses that denotation upon return from the first.  Hopefully that makes sense.  Anyway, it's not a huge problem, but I don't know if Saint or the other mods/admins know about it.  Maybe it's just my account.   :dunno

Odd.  I was curious, so I did a test.

couldn't duplicate the issue.
used both the back button and clicked on "Main" to return to the main forum.
topics above and below the one I looked at are still marked as new.

running internet explorer 8 on xp.   :dunno

I also don't have this issue.  I'm using Firefox.  I looked through settings by clicking on profile and didn't see any settings that may cause that to happen.  I know I have experienced a similar issue on other boards, so I'm assuming it is a setting somewhere.  Does the same thing happen if you are not logged in?

I can't duplicate this. I tried and tried but nada.  I am running Firefox though.  Perhaps IE is losing stuff it is supposed to put on the screen?

Just tested with Chrome, everything is as expected.  No lost posts here

You aren't losing posts, you are just losing the icon next to it saying there is a new reply, correct?  Basically, the mark read button is being pressed or something similar which makes it look like there haven't been any new posts since the last time you have read a thread.  I'd dig around the setting some more or make sure "mark read" is not accidentally being pressed.

Yeah, it's just the icon next to the second thread that disappears.  I don't lose anything otherwise.  I'm using WinXP and Firefox from different machines.  It seems to happen on both systems.  If it's just me, then no worries.  I wasn't sure if this was something others were seeing too.  It's not a big deal, I just like to use the new icon to see what threads I haven't read yet (you know, the reason the icon is there  :laugh2:).

I have the same issue with firefox and my IPBoard forum.  The post and preview icons completely disappear if I preview a post.

I'm hoping that with the move to SMF the issue doesn't remain.  Saying that I have not had the same issue with this site, as it is SMF, so here's to hoping.

I do not have this issue with chrome or IE.  Just the recent release of Firefox...well that and the crashes...

Its odd.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

FWIW, I am running Firefox 3.6.8 on one system.  The other is more up to date, but I'm actually not sure it's having this issue now that I think about it.
